been here a week and want to go home

I'm sorry, Cassie, but I'd like to say that when you have a backbone you can kind of make things happen. I worked CP 5 years ago, and when my hours got to be a bit much, they didn't hesitate to scale them back for me. Attitudes similar to yours are why CP continues to use and abuse so many employees each year. I'm not saying that it's not a fun place to work, because it is, but I've heard many horror stories from employees that were being worked half to death and stressed out about it simply because they didn't have the stones to speak up about it, and I don't plan on becoming one of those people.

Dude, my friend Kim at SKy Ride Refreshments works 97 hours a week. How crazy is that?! But, that is waht she wanted, so, she got what she asked for.

Crazy workaholics.

I thought there was some kind of law stating you have to have a period of so many hours of not working a week, even for legal adults.

That's what she said she's been working. I think that its a bit much; I for one know that there is no way in hell I would ever be able to work that much. 40 hours a week is damn good for me at Sawmill. 97 at Cedar Point would kill me.

All in favor of splits to go and nap sa "I". I liked splits. Well if you're a ride host.

When I last worked there two years ago, CP had passed a rule that no one could work more than 80 hours a week. Did they change it? But I guess if they don't have enough people...then they don't have a choice but to extend it.

Since busy weekend hours could easily be 15 hours/day (not even including Joe Cool for the ride ops) it seems to me it would be hard to keep someone from getting way over 50+ hours p/week.

Does anyone actually keep track of how many hours p/week someone works besides payroll and the actual employee?

CP gets around most of the normal working laws due to it being under the seasonal/carnival employment laws (or something like that) No mininum, maximum number of hours and no O/T.

I appreciate how Kissytina24 feels. The job is way harder than anyone can anticipate and believe me NO guest has ANY clue how hard you all work. I worked at CP for "fun" during 3 Halloweekend seasons and the hours were rough. Despite being used to many hours of physical labor (working at a stable and training horses) nothing can get you prepared for working at CP.

As many mentioned here, things will get better when more employees process in. Good luck!

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

They frown upon people going over 80 hours. The week before I got fired I worked 82.6 hours. It was a nice paycheck, but i was so worn out

Were you part of that one group that all got fired? I still can' believe that Cedar Point fired that many people at once.

Why bring up the "I was fired" thing again?

I'm not sure about Ohio but in MI there is no set amout of time you are required to have off each week. I know whe I worked in a grogery store, which was union) if we didn't have 6 hours between shifts we got paid double time until six hours between shifts had passed.

Years back I know of at least one case where a seasonal employee worked over 100 hours in a week. I'm not kidding about that. She was in the reservations office in accommodations which was open 8:00 am to Midnight. With the possibility of working 16 hour days it would be conceivable to work 116 hours in seven days time.

IF u quit can u come back to work in a different department? and or come back for the next season?

Hey Everyone, You may not know me but I worked in Park Admissions from 1998-2003. My name is Michele I miss cp alot. Yes the hours are long and you are tired but you can never replace or even compare the time at Cedar Point to the time back home. Just tonight me and my bestfreind who also worked at cp were thinking of the fun we had. If you stick it out someday you will be like us and wish you were there and not in the "real world" back home. It's really not that bad when back home you work 40 hours a week and are bored at your job!!!

Michele19981cp has a good point. I worked like a dog back in the day when Magnum and Mean Streak were the "big" coasters. We worked long hours, but it was so much fun. And I still talk to many of the people I worked with back then. So much so that I went back to work weekends in 2003. Its a great place to be. And even though you're working long hours, it will be over really quick. And then you'll go through the withdrawl during the winter months and can't wait to get back again.

To all you current employees-Stick it out! Working at CP is only as bad as you make it. 90 hr/wk or 40 hr/wk they are both tiring. But nothing compares to the friends you make while there. I still talk to and visit the people I worked with 6 yrs ago, and I've been over seas for the last 3 yrs.

As for labor laws seasonal employees in Ohio are not entitled to overtime, nor a restricted amount of hours, not even a break or day off. The easiest way to get these is to ask. Of course this does not include minors, they mandated to have day(s) off and breaks every so many hrs.

I just wanted to let you know that we are all geting lots of hours. Thats what we are here for after all. I think that we should keep this in mind when the send up our contracts. Stick it out! Cedar point is a great place to work and to meet people. I have lots of fond memories form the past three years here and yes there are thime I have thought I could not do this day after day but I do it because I love it.
