been here a week and want to go home

I love my job, but there are long hours. after walking for 15 hours a day my feet hurt, and I then I have to be there frist thing the next moring. That is not enought time for the pain to start to go away I get to go back to the dorms for like 7 hours if I am lucky to sleep then it is back to the point to work....

My advice is to try to stick it out. Your body will adjust to the long hours on your feet, it just takes a little time. The more you're there, the more friends you'll make and the less you'll be thinking about your long day at work.
Also keep in mind that staffing is low right now, when everyone is done with college and high school the park will be fully staffed and your shifts will most likely be shorter.

It sounds like long hours, but I suggest you stay. I literaly think about Cedar Point every 5 mintues these days, and I do not even have a chance to go until mid June. So I suggest you enjoy it while you are there.

You are walking on cememt every day. That is brutle on your feet. I reccomend you go to CVS or any other pharmacy and get some of the gel insoles for you shoes. It will make a world of difference.

Are you a sweep, or what job do you have?

Regardless, many of the International Employee's will arive soon and your hours will go down by a fair amount. Up until late May I tihnk I was working every hour the park was open. By Mid June i was down to around 50 hours a week with shorter shifts, which I think was a perfect amount. Plus, many times International's are more than willing to take your shift on their day off.

Also, the first few weeks are pretty rough on your body, but after a while it adjust and the foot and back pains will go away. I really suggest you try and stick it out for at least a few more weeks. :)

I really sympathize with you, and know how you feel. It is extremely tough. Before you leave I would check to see if your schedule is going to relax any. Cedar Point is a lot of fun if you're working a normal amount of hours, like 40-55. I agree that if you work that long every day then it is not worth it. It feels like all you ever do is work, with no reward. Just wait and see if your hours are going to get cut any...

Joe E is right. so you better enjoy the long hours while you can because once the international employees get there your hours will be cut and maybe they might overstaff on some days.

Working and attending are two different things. It may seem like heaven to have a job at a place like Cedar Point but the thing that you have to remember is that it IS a job, no matter what location or how fun the job is, and it's a different perspective than visiting as a guest.

While I sympathize, I would suggest getting those gel insoles. Most jobs where you are on your feet a large amount of time and aren't used to it tend to cause a lot of pain (your toenails might even turn black because of all the increased circulation) but once your body adjusts you'll be fine.

Oh yeah...I didnt see that you work 15 hours a day. Well I just think you should stick it out to the summer, and if you still dont like it, then leave. I have learned in life that if something bothers you alot and is causing you stress in all areas of your life, just simply eliminate the problem. Maybe, as stated earlier, your hours will decrease once more employees arrive to the park to work. If not, then just make the decision that makes you happier.

I think another thing that would help you out when it comes to hours is actually having the guts to go to your supervisor and let him/her know when you feel overworked. I don't start until June 8th, and while I am aware that this is a job and not a vacation I have no intentions of working any more than 40 hours a week, and I plan to ask about the shifts I will work and state my preferences in a respectful and professional way. BTW, I'm serving at the Red Garter, so I doubt the hours will be as long as the ones at certain other areas in the park. TopThrill is right, you have to make the decision that makes YOU happy, and if you don't want to be someone's workhorse all summer, don't be.

When I was working ~40 a week, it was the worst. I was working splits almost every day, so I'd have to be there at 9:25, and I'd close, and I'd have a few hours in the middle of that as garbage.

Be careful what you ask/wish for.

Working constant splits would suck. I'd rather go in, work until the end of my shift and leave, with a break or two in between.

I don't know what the Cp sweapers hours are but. I work at PKI in ecology as a pan and broom. My hours are now in between 6.5 and 7.5 hours. Im on my feet every second for at least 5 or 6 hours, with break up to a full hour. Yes it can be murder on your feet, but I enjoy it. It does some times add up to between 5 to 10 miles of walking. My day does go faster when I talk to the guest, and other sweapers. But I love it. :) *** Edited 5/22/2005 3:36:56 AM UTC by daniel smith***

Quote from a Corkscrew ride op, "And Dragster is down again"

I dont mean to jack this post but I was wondering if there is potential to work between 70 and 80 hours a week all summer? I know that it will be hell at first but I think that I will get used to it. Besides... I think that working alot of hours at the park will keep me from wanting to go home and stuff because I drive myself crazy with worry about my family. Can anyone help me please? .:. Oh, I was wondering that if you ARE happy with your job but you still want to try something different too... can you work 2 jobs at cp... of course have one work around the other, is it at all possible though?

Uh, there's only 168 hours in a week.

Did you plan on sleeping at all?

I'm sorry, but I have to say that this is a little bit unrealistic. If you are living in CP housing then you will be scheduled for whenever you are needed. If you go there to work then it is supposed to be your main priority...(in Cedar Point's mind).

I don't know what kind of hours you get in Red Garter, though. Maybe it is only around 40, maybe higher. But you are going to work how many hours they tell you to work...be it 40, 50, or 70. Be aware of that before you go in.

actually yes. i figured that if i work about 70 or 80 hours a week this summer, than i will sleep the same still. in my calculations, if there are 168 hours in a week and i work a max of 80 hours there is still 88 hours left to sleep and have a life. that is almost 13 hours left in each day for me to sleep and find time for myself and i usually only sleep for around six... i dont know, you do the math but i think that it would work.

I work close to 70 hours a week between my two jobs, and while on paper the other 98 hours in a week may look like a lot you'll find yourself wondering where your "free time" goes.

ROUNDABOUND.

Dude, my friend Kim at SKy Ride Refreshments works 97 hours a week. How crazy is that?! But, that is waht she wanted, so, she got what she asked for.

Crazy workaholics.
