I really want to work at CP this summer, but I'm going to need to make a decent amount of money for books, etc. for school next year. Assuming that I work for 3 months (Contract is from 5/9 to 8/14) and occasionally work some overtime, how much can I expect to take home after taxes?
There really isn't any so called "overtime". Depending on where you are working, you'll be pullin 60/70 hour weeks.

According to the NLRB the last 20-30 hours per week is overtime. Granted, it will be considered as part of your "regular" schedule, but you'll get the timex1.5 that the government says you get.

Yeah, like I said, depending on where you work. I work in foods, my highest paycheck was for 92 hours.

That doesnt apply to seasonal employment. we dont get overtime pay.
Seasonal or not, you are still subject to the law. Checking out the NLRB site (most notable here (and the Fair Labor Standards Act you are an employee. Employee's are subject to llabor laws.
Unless seasonal employees are exluded (and I found nothing to state this) these rules apply to you as well. Unless someone can find differently. This was just doing a quick search through the NLRB site and what I found.
So anything in excess of 40 hours in a week is subject to overtime pay which must be not less than one and one-half times your normal pay.

Ok... I've only worked there for 3 years... and not get paid overtime. Trust me, i've looked into it. You will not get paid overtime, because it is seasonal! Face it

the minimum wage is federal law. wages are not set federally, ok?
ohio has exemptions for overtime, for seasonal work- typically farming, etc. I guess they throw us into that category. there is NO time and a half.
Here, I found differently.. From the Department of Labor:
The following are examples of employees exempt from both the minimum wage and overtime pay requirements:
<<and occasionally work some overtime>>
Well, if by 'occasional' you mean every week :-)
Well, how much you can make in 3 months depends on several factors. You figure that you'll be making about $6.25 an hour, and you can average anywhere in between 45-80 hours a week, depening on staffing levels in your department. It is always hard to say, because you never can tell how money people on your crew are going to show up, or quit. Normally, you might be looking at between $250.00 - $300.00 a week after taxes. But it is always tough to say.
Plus there is the bonus you receive at the end of your contract, and that could be a couple hundred dollars.

My average paycheck usually included a 72 hour work week, and, times that by $6.25 an hour.. Not to mention the bonus included at the end of your contract, which if you work enough, is HUGE.. I also worked out on the Beach as a lifeguard, and, I ALWAYS got hours.. So, as long as you save up, and don't go to Louie's every night (big mistake I did), you'll be fine! and that bonus check is ALWAYS a nice add on :)

It doesnt suck to be an employee. Sure the pay isn't the best, but that is the way it is at a lot of seasonal jobs. Plus in my opinion most employees don't work at Cedar Point for the money, we go for the expirence. I would never trade my summers for the world. And it has been looking Great on my resumes!

Look at it like this- If we were allowed to get overtime, we would each have a 39 hour workweek.
So you would end up getting less. Sometimes its easier to just not complain, you know?
