August 8th, not really a "report" but some observations

1. Now I know what having an amusement park on Venus would be like after yesterday's weather. Yikes!
2. Considering the temperature was in the 90's with high humidity there are a lot of people that don't know how to dress properly. BLACK shirts? Are you people nuts? My wife said she saw some people wearing hoodies!!!
3. Nice to see the the no smoking policy being enforced. (rolls eyes)
4. The people running the Cadillac Cars need to quit talking with each other and get to work. There were SIX cars stacked up to be brought into the station. Oh how I miss the days of being able to drive it in yourself.
5. Not enough people are going on Maxair. You go 70 MPH on that ride yet we waited about ten minutes.
6. They are called HAND rails, not foot rails or butt rails. How lazy are these people that they have to sit on the handrails every opportunity they get? Am I alone in waiting to push them off? Hee.
7. They need to place a taffy stand in the back of the park. Some people to exit through the Soak City lot. My wife was quite disappointed she didn't get any taffy. I offered to walk up front to get it but she said I didn't have to.
8. I must say that the expected wait signs were right on the money. It said 45 for MF, we waited 50. DT said 45 mins, that's what it was. TTD said 1 hour we waited 1:20. The story with TTD was my son wanted to go on and I didn't want him to go by himself. So we waited and when we got to the station he got in line for the front, hence the extra wait time. I said I wouldn't go on TTD because to me a coaster with no lift hill is not a coaster. Same reason I didn't go on WT. I know others disagree with me but that's just me.

As a bonus, Magnum wasn't running all morning, after lunch we were walking passed it when they opened the line. We got on the third ride of the day. Only had to wait about 5 minutes. By the time we got off it was 30 minutes. Lucked into that I guess.

All in all, the kids had a good time, got to go on everything they wanted. The wife, who normally rides the bench, found a lady to talk to while we went on Wildcat.

I forgot one other thing, call this #9 I guess. People do not know how to drive the Dodgems. You are not supposed to drive into the big wad of cars and get stuck. I am the self proclaimed greatest Dodgems driver of all time so I know of what I speak. You drive to end of the ride with no cars, get a running start, nail someone, drive away and repeat process. The best is when someone with their back to you gets hit then they back up a little bit from the collision then you nail them for a good whiplash effect. I even received a compliment for doing that to someone I drilled yesterday.

I noticed that same issue with the Cadillac Cars way back in May. That crew needs a fire lit under their butts. Of course, that stacks up the que as well making the wait miserably boring.

I don't consider TTD a rollercoaster myself. But it is a pretty amazing thrill ride.

I think the no smoking policy at Cedar Point is a Joke, and the area's that they supplied for people to smoke in are tiny, I mean come on one bench to sit on! I am not even a smoker, and I think this has a lot to do with why people don't respect the no smoking policy. I think they need a few more area's with a bit more room in them and it would cut down on the people who do not obey that policy.

So thats why you wont ride them?

Why cant you just "not call it a coaster" and go on it?

I now refuse to go on the Cadillac Cars because they are not really cadillacs, nor are they really "cars".

^ - what's your definition of a car?

The CC's have an ICE, 4 wheels, seats and a steering wheel. Sounds like cars to me.

As for TTD, I've said it several times (and its been a while). Its a great thrill ride, but a poor to mediocre (at BEST) coaster.

Not enough people go on Wicked Twister. You go over 70 MPH yet it's nearly always a walk on.

As I stated earlier, I did go on TTD, and now that I have I won't go on it again. Waiting an hour for a 15 second ride isn't worth it to me. I don't care how fast it goes. I'm sure others disagree with me, but that's only my opinion.

There is only so much employees can do to enforce that policy. Employees are expected to point the guest in the direction of a smoking area and tell the guest of the new policy if they see anyone smoking outside of a designated area. In fact, if management or supervision sees an employee just 'walk past' a smoker, just like trash, we'll get spoken too. I know myself, along with countless other employees all summer, tried to help guests become aware of the policy but again, there's only so much you can do from a seasonal employee standpoint. More awareness needs to be made from upper-management, in my opinion. Bigger signs, bigger areas, etc. And yes, some employees just don't bother...but they are the ones that can and usually do get spoken to.

Now, that said, it shouldn't be just the park's problem. The park instituted a new policy and did try to get awareness out. People still decide to be rude and ignore the policy. I can't tell you how many guests I politely pointed to the WT smoking area from our exit plaza. It was in PLAIN VIEW, a mere one minute walk and still in view of the ride, and they would put out the cigarette and relight once I had my back turned, or would start to walk to the area and then turn around.

So yes, the employees (seasonal and full-time) might want to work harder about getting word out because there is always room for improvement, but a lot of us try our best. And guests need to also take some responsibility for themselves and be mature about the issue. There is a smoking area near each of the major rides. It isn't that hard to head over there for a few to smoke..if you want it that bad. Otherwise, wait til you're out of the park and in your car, where YOU can set the rules.

Wow. That's pretty harsh. Next time I go I'll be sure to spray some poison gas in the air, and if someone complains I'll just tell them to deal with it.

As long as you keep it to the toxicity levels of open-air second hand smoke, that's fine.

It does annoy me when smokers are rude because everyone associates that with smokers, not the fact that the person was just rude and had nothing at all to do with the fact that they smoke.

Unless there's an employee stationed in the queues at all times, it's going to be kind of tricky to catch someone and tell them to stop. Once again, it goes back to people having respect for others and people needing to follow rules. Yes, if an employee is heading on break or is rotating or something and we see a smoker in line, we can stop them, but we can't just cut a position to run from the platform to stop a smoker..it's just not feasible.

I agree they need to add more smoking areas, I as a smoker tried to obey the new policy but wasn't able to as all the smoking areas were full and no place to sit is another issue if its' own. Leave it to Cedar Point to leave out another portion of its guests not to mention the larger guests on the rides. Hello CP open your eyes get rides that accommodate all guests no matter their size and you may see more attendance your way. Keep up this "May not be suitable for persons of expectational size" and keep seeing you attendance and rating go farther down the tube.

^ - the line for GOES has to be drawn somewhere, and it is always going to leave some people out.

#1 - That's life
#2 - Get a helmet.

The MF debacle is out of their hands. It was a requirement that came down from the manufacturer, and as such, Ohio law requires that Cedar Point follow all manufacturer requirements. They can't just ignore the new belt length requirements.

It sucks? Yes.

Does it make a lot of sense? Not really.

See numbers 1 and 2 above.

It always goes back to the seatbelt issue, doesn't it?

The no smoking policy was such a great idea. It's annoiyng how they don't enforce it.

JuggaLotus's avatar

How would you propose they enforce it? Have employees next to every garbage can (read, every 10 feet) waiting to tell smokers that they have to go to one of the smoking areas? From what some have said, the employees do say something to the smokers they SEE. However, there is the issue of the employees being A - busy running their ride, B - busy running their food booth and C - out-numbered.

Personally, I would have rather seen a crack-down by security on line smoking before implementing a partial in park ban. It never makes sense to implement more rules/laws when you do a piss-poor job of enforcing the ones you already have.
