Alright I'm new and confused as hell.
Any Advice to the whole experience?
I'm going to be in ride operations.
I was just hired today so I want to get a head start on knowing what I'm getting myself into!
I look forward to working with all of you!

In general you'll do flight suiting your first day or two at the ride, which may be as early as the day after you process in depending on when they schedule your new employee orientation. You do not need to go through the orientation before you start work though, so you may work for a week or two before you have your class.
Once you have flight suiting down, you'll train on expediting, which is by far the easiest but in my opinion the most boring position on the ride. You stand by a gate, escort guests to and from the platform, push a button, use the skyhook to bring the launch bridle over to the AC, and then stand by the gate again.
The next training position is technically supposed to be the assistant controller, but we always trained people in the controller position first since it's easier. This is the position that gives all the verbal instructions to guests on the platform, double checks what the AC does, runs the winch, and does the spiel over the microphone. This was usually my favorite position, with the exception being on the days we repeatedly had really stupid guests who wouldn't pay attention to anything you were trying to tell them to do. I did love the really stupid guests who would do anything you told them to do ("Stand on top of the white footbar, lock arms at the elbows, touch your nose with your finger, and continue touching your nose until you get to the top.")
The final training position is the assistant controller. The AC is the person who actually hooks up all the hardware on the platform, raises and lowers the platform, rebuilds the 3 ring during the flight, and catches the flyers at the end of the flight. This position ends up being much easier than it seems like it would be (at least for most people....) You learn really fast, but it takes a few weeks before you start to get decently fast at it. The length of the ride cycle (and thus length of our line) is pretty much totally dependent on how fast this person moves, therefore we usually tried to have the fastest people in this position at busier times.
The site controller test is usually in mid June, I believe last year it was June 20-21 or something like that. It consists of one day of a representative from Skycoaster watching you perform the positions on the ride, and on day two, there is a 50 question written test. I thought it was very easy, but I was a geek and was very interested in knowing everything there is to know about the ride. The veterans (which hopefully will include myself, at least on a weekends only basis) are very helpful with studying and learning the material for the test, so by mid June you'll be set. If you don't pass the test it really is no big deal. About the only thing that happens when you pass is you get to do test flights (which I LOVED!) and you can fly on any other Skycoaster for free (which I took mucho advantage of). There must be at least one Site Controller at the ride at all times, so basically it helps if quite a few people pass the test. I remember last year prior to the test when there were times people couldn't leave to go to the bathroom because they were the only Site Controller at the time.
And don't forget the Ripcord crew also runs Skyscraper, which is really fun to drive. The only downsides about Skyscraper are big guests, very sore arms/wrists for the first few weeks, going an hour or more with no riders, and being stuck over there with someone you don't like.
Overall, Ripcord probably is the best place to work in the park (I know everyone says that about where they worked). Challenge Park in general doesn't deal with as much drama and BS as the rides inside the park have to deal with. You almost never have to put up with angry guests. We had one situation last summer that almost warranted a call to security. Some rides call security multiple times a day. You get a lot more time to connect with your crew during slow periods, and you work closeley with each other when running the ride.
Anyhoo, I've rambled on long enough. If anyone has more questions about Ripcord/Skyscraper let me know. There are a few other Ripcord-ites around here too.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Thanks Ralph. :-) I will definitely look you up if i need help on something, and i do hope you get to work on the weekends. ;-) I think i have heard about getting to ride other Skycoasters for free when your a SC. haha Thanks again for all the info. You're a lot of help. :-)
