ATL, TL, Blue Tags, Red Tags?

Could someone please explain to me all this terminology?
Here is a completely blind shot in the dark from a new ride op for the 2004 season who has never bothered to investigate any of this terminology...

TL = Team Leader (i.e. Ride Lead / Head of crew on that ride)

ATL = Apprentice Team Leader? Kind of like 2nd in command from what I gather.

Blue Tag = TL or ATL
Red Tag = Lowly ride op.

TL = Team Leader, ATL = Assistant Team Leader, both are known as 'blue tags' because the bottom of their tag is blue. A red tag, has a red-bottomed tag, and is just a regular crew member.

A double blue tag is a Supervisior. There is a way to tell the difference between single and double. Double blue tags will have there first and last name on there name tag. A single blue tag will only have there first name and have a regualur dept. uniform.

Is there still a green tag for minors? Nothing like an instand classe system when you go to work. I have always felt they should do away with that and just put your first name on your tag. It is good enough for Disney and they have about 60,000 more employees.

They still have the light green and dark green tags for minors. I'm not really sure about how the ages break down for those. I think it's 15-16 is light green and 17 is dark green.

I wish I could come back for another season...:(

14-15 light... 16-17 dark green

The green tags really help the superviors determine what tasks can be performed by various people according to minor labor laws in Ohio.

Esspecially in foods there are several tasks a 14-15 year old can not do that a 16 or 17 year old can and you don't always know the ages of every employee under you.

I have heard that rationale but I don't buy it. Get to know your employees, and train them to know what they can or can't do.

I understand what you are saying, however I find it real easy to be able to look at someone's nametag and know immediately what they can/should be able to do. In alot of locations, new employees are constantly arriving. With the exception of those that stay in your location all the time, it would be very difficult to know someone's abilities on the first day. But I also think that supervisors, upper-level employees should get to know their employees better. I have seen that as a major problem with CP employee relations. So, in short, I partially agree with what you are saying.

According to Ohio law ALL minor must either have a different uniform or a different color name tag. At my current job, at McDonald's, anyone that is over 18 and is a regular crew memeber has a blue work shirt. Any regular crew memeber that is under 18 has a green work shirt.

Ohio labor laws require that all minors names are placed within full view of both minors and managment in order for the employees and employers to know the rights and responsibilities afforded to them. this system is so that an employer will know that he has to give that person a break without having to look at his/her schedule every 20 minutes, and it is good for the minor so that he is able to effectively lobby for these rights he is afforded

Well, that is interesting about the Ohio Labor Laws. You learn something new every day. But, if that is the case then identify the minors whatever way necessary and leave everyone else the same. This whole silver tag, two name blue tag, blue tag, red tag stuff is rather silly.

Where I work everyone knows who the boss is. He doesn't have to wear a beenie cap to be identified. A dunce cap, mabye.

Does any know if you're 17 and housing at Cedar Point if you get a dark green or a red tag?

I think if you graduated high school you get a red tag

Nah it's real easy once you get the hang of it. It doesn't take more than a week or two...

It may vary. My first season working at Cedar Point, I graduated high school and I was 17yrs old (living in CP housing). I had a dark green tag. I have seen others in the same situation and they had a red tag. It may also vary when your birthday is.

The only reason i can think of why leadership is given a different tag color is so that the guests may identify who the person is that is in charge. Being able to identify the person in charge is often a good thing for both the guests and fellow employees. for example if you walk into a mcdonalds resturaunt and ask for a manager to assist you with a problem that you had with an employee there isnt it easier to see that you really are talking to a manager if they are dressed differently than your traditional crew member. this is just set up as a piece of mind for the guest/customer.

Guests, unless they are enthusiasts, have no clue that the tags have different colors, let alone what they mean. Only one guest said "Oh that's pretty that the tags have different colors" I think it's more for employees to help figure out who's who. If you come over from another ride, you'll always know who the TL/ATL is. Guests may notice supervisors, they wear completely different outfits and carry radios. Some employees think the tag is a status symbol, which is idiotic, but your tag does tell a lot about you.

Tells alot about you? Umm, Except 90% of the working people at CP are red tags. Your tag tells nothing about you that deals with the COLOR. Maybe where you are from and your name. I hope you meant that, because the color of the tag has ZERO to do with who you are.

Colors also have nothing to do with departments, rides, etc. -- the coloration is the same throughout the park. A blue tag may mean a ride leader, head of a food stand, head of a store, host of a show venue, etc.

I remember the older "tags" -- when the entire tag was whatever color, and you had a separate ID. I still have a couple of my older nametags.
