Area 51 vs. DDR obsession

lol, thats what I did. A short trip to Lowes for a 3 x 3 foot board (i think...) and some duck tape and the cheap pads are great. But they do wear out quick.

I have to admit, the freeze arrows along with the better FPS in 7th Mix is a very nice improvment but with all the songs (what like 50+?) one would think that their would be at least more good songs on it than the previous versions. Every time I play I find myself playing the same 3 or 4 songs over and over.

*Sigh* If only they had Jam Jam Reggae for 7th mix....

Jam Jam Reggae is by far the best Double Manic song to play in my opinion. Its soo much fun. lol :)

Hello everyone! I'm new to this board but I have been reading on ever since the new construction has started. Here is my question... There is the huge a rumor (as you all know) of this new coaster only being a launch to tophat and then to the brakes, and by the looks of the arrangment of the footers/supports after the first hill so far, it does supports this rumor. Will you in anyway be upset if the new coaster has an overall irksome layout?

I'd like to hear opions from anyone but especailly from real diehard Cedar Point enthusiasts.

Got the pads and I dig them. The foam is almost a hair too soft, so I feel like I'm working a little harder to bounce off of them. Other than that, they're reasonably sensitive and don't bunch or slide.

We tried the board thing, and it was okay, but one of the pads tore right away. Not to mention it makes it difficult to store them. Considering we play in the family room, I don't like big honking things that can't be stored out of sight when need be.

The new ones are going to present a bit of a problem in that area, as we aren't going to want to fold them up like we did the others. But at least they are light enough they can be easily carried and put away somewhere else.

Yeah, I know...my "mom-ness" is showing.

I'd like to throw out my opinions of 3rd Mix Plus ver. 2 and 5th mix. 3rd mix plus was the first machine I've ever played on. I started prolly about a year ago now. I am definitely addicted to this game but since the recent loss of my car I haven't been able to play as much. 3rd Mix was a great machine to learn on. As far as having the 2nd mix songs on it as well, the only good songs that I liked on 2nd were the three paranoias on maniac, those were the only ones I played on 2nd. Other than that 2nd mix songs are way too slow. I must say that the DDR machine in the park is horrible. I refuse to step foot on that machine again. After the arcade got rid of 3rd mix they brought in a 5th mix machine. 5th mix is by far the best machine that I have played. It has the great songs from 3rd mix and some other bad ass ones. One thing is for sure, 5th mix seems to be a lot more tiring than 3rd mix. There is a lot more constant movement on some of the songs. I was glad to see Captain Jack on 5th mix as well. One of the best songs to work on your turns. Dead End was the first 9 footer I ever passed(can combo it now) so I was glad to see that on there. There are a ton of other great songs on there as well. I'll admit that 5th mix might not exactly be a learners machine but it is definitely a great machine.

As for the home pads, I want to buy a pad and I want it to feel just like the arcade. I don't want it to fall apart or have crappy sensitivity. What's the best thing I can get for the money, aside from an actualy machine? Does anyone have the new Red Octane Ignition 2.0 pad? I was thinking about that one, it's gotten great reviews, but I'm concerned that it will have to much give on the buttons and I don't want that. I want to be able to wear shoes. Would I just be better of getting a metal pad? LiveE, is it cheaper to make than it is to buy? I've looked into making a metal one and it seems pretty easy. What would you suggest? Anyways, I'm done for now.

Oh yeah, WickedAlf, head to other threads to discuss that. This is just a DDR thread. You'll find an abundance of answers to nearly all your questions. Have fun!

Peace I'm Out

the acutal materials are not that expensive, just make sure you have all the tools you'll need, and a decent soldering capability ;) other than that they aren't too hard, and they will transform your home fun ten fold. I never used to play at home, but i do all the time with this pad...
