Anybody Woried?

futurepoolboy,

the train will not come to a complete stop, rather, it will slow down to a speed of 5 mph before launching out of the tunnel..

I am just worried about the launches not working or something....

Way to necro! :)

Well, since this board's back and all...

There's this guy at my school who tries to relate to my roller coaster interests, as I try to relate to his car love.

Anyway, I was telling him about Maverick and as soon as I was done he goes, "It will break down a lot. :/"

I want to see that quote shot down, hopefully changing the minds of people who heard about Dragster's bugs.

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

I was wondering about the anti-rollback system of the first hill. If the power went out as the train was ascending the first hill, what would keep it in place?

This year:
Maverick: 5
MF: 4
TTD: 2
Skyhawk: 5

Haltd, if you remember Magnum's first two years, then you must have forgotten all those days the weather, braking, wheels, wind, and timing issues kept the ride down many days. Not in a row, maybe not the entire day, but most of it (arg). I distinctly remeber more than a few given I had driven 12 hours from Boston. On all trips I got at least one ride, but that could have been over the course of 3 days. (god those were the days though - LOL.)

I think the internet and availability of information changes the perception of parks now - at least for enthusiasts. I think in all the years I've been to the point (usually just once or twice a year), the only ride that's ever been down was TTD. 2003 is was broken the entire day I was there. Since the internet didn't really exist when Magnum was built, and it worked the days I was there, I assumed it was always working. LOL!!

i was wondering the same thing. would it roll back down and have it brake like ttd or would it just brake on the hill?

are the lsm motors at the botom or the whole lift hill

if there at the botom it should continue on is's own right?

It appears that there are LSM's both on the lift hill and at the bottom. And it would seem that there are no anti-rollback mechanisms on the hill, so a power failure would likely mean the train will roll back to the bottom, where it will be stopped by the brakes, just as with TTD.

Brandon

The LSMs are at the base and all the way up the first hill, yes.

But is it one continuous length of them? I seem to remember seeing (on the POV video) that there was a section of LSM's before the hill, and one on the hill, but the two were not connected.

I think you're right. Looking at the layout drawing, there are a set of LSM on the last flat section of track. There aren't any on the upward curving section, then they start again on the straight track going up the lift hill.

I'm guessing that the first section will give enough of a boost for the train to engage the LSMs on the lift hill.

Yeah, I can't imagine how they would be able to use LSM's on the actual curved track. As the front of a car enters the curve, the car is lifted, so the LSM's wouldn't be engaged on that car.

LIM's have their share of problems.

After working at Wicked Twister this season, I can say they have some glitches in the system but for the most part they are minor, plus this is Cedar Point we are talking about here. After working for them I can tell you when there is a problem their goal is to get it fixed and opened as soon as as safely possible. They don't like when rides go down. Neither do the ride operators for the most part.
