announcement date 8/18/15

As far as the capacity debate goes, taking a look at the numbers, 2 out of the top 3 are B&M and all of the B&M's made the top ten. This is interesting because if we were to look at how popular based off of who has the longest line, I don't think any one would argue that Maverick and Millennium are most popular. Rides like Raptor and Gatekeeper don't really have long lines later in the day like those two, however they both beat out Maverick for most riders. Does the length of the line or amount of riders determine a rides popularity? I put my vote in the amount of riders.

As far as 2016 goes: We really have nothing hinting at getting anything in addition to the coaster. I think if they do anything other than the midway refresh and coaster it will be announced much later similar to what they did with Slingshot. As far as the leak goes, they probably weren't thinking that some one would be so impatient that they would decompile it and were more concerned with those who would be at the park to get it before the 18th, but that doesn't explain why they never marketed it to any one (except maybe the media in their package). Also, if/when do you think the app will be rereleased so that those of us who missed it can get it before Tuesday?

I thing the app is going to be used to advertise the new ride before it is open. A teaser so to speak.

Helpful yes but not needed. Most of those people in that office don't have much need to be out in the parks often enough that a drive across the causeway isn't out of the question. If working at other parks has taught me one thing, its that 90% of support offices don't need to be anywhere near the park itself.

I wasn't including the fire department in my comment, mainly because it isn't in P&D at all. The trucks all park under a small overhang connected to P&D so I am sure they could stay if P&D were to be repurposed for another use.

I wonder if they will include a moment of silence for the poor fellow who lost his life yesterday. I'm guessing that, while not wanting to detract from the festive atmosphere of a new attraction's announcement, park management may need to recognize the sad event, occurring so soon before the date as it did.

There is no need the guy basically disobeyed park rules, where signs are posted plain as day!!! He entered at his own risk when he could have waited for park employees to retrieve his phone! I feel sorry for his family that has to go through this, but he wasn't real smart!! Would you jump in front of a moving bus to get your cell phone?? So not worth it!!! RIP

The moment of silence would be to show respect to his family and friends. And your little "RIP" at the end doesn't make up for the vitriol you spilled in the rest of your post about a man who just lost his life.

There is no reason to say anything about the incident at the announcement, nor the need for a moment of silence. There should be no connection whatsoever between what happened yesterday, and what the park is doing for 2016. If the park were to do anything, a moment of silence at opening today would have been a more appropriate choice.

I highly doubt that the 2016 announcement will even touch upon yesterday's incident. The media is doing a decent job of reporting this, most of the reports I've seen position it as a police investigation to a death caused by negligence on the part of the deceased. There is no reason for a moment of silence or for the park to continue focusing on this.

Agreed. Not to sound hard-hearted, but you want the focus of an announcement to be the announcement. And it's likely the local media covering the story will probably reference this tragedy as part of their stories.

Adding onto what Pete said, I'm surprised the media is actually doing a decent job telling it how it is and not blowing this out of proportion. And declaring Cedar Point a death park.

Also because of the fact that Raptor is opening back up today....

And opening Raptor as soon as they could is the best thing they can do to send the message of safety loud and clear.

I would have to agree that what would be in the park's best interest would be to make as much distance between this incident and themselves as quickly as possible. The tragedy happened at their park, but in a case like this where 100% of the responsibility is on the deceased, I see no reason for them to bring it back to light during a moment that is supposed to be about the next exciting chapter in the park's life.

There's not much more the park can do or say; and I'm sure they're dealing with it 24/7 behind the scenes with hours of interviews and conversations and discussion we will never be privy to.

While they didn't need to do that, it probably was in the park's best interest. You don't want to do something like that when a tragedy at the park is still fresh in everyone's mind. Wait for this all to blow over. I think it will probably be at least the last week of August or the first week of September now.

I wonder if the VR app will still trigger on the 18th?

If they are changing the name then, okay. If they aren't then why postpone it?
