An New Idea - Dancing

A dance club for kids staying at the resort hotels would be cool. Open from 9 pm to midnight and properly supervised would be a blast for kids at the end of the day.

I know I always want to go dancing after a long day of coaster riding, feet hurting, legs sore, tired.

^Funny! Yeah, not necessary to have a dance club.

I'm only guessing, but if the park stayed open to 2 in the morning, your legs and feet would just get as tired. I'm just looking for and thinking about fun things for kids.

Different strokes for different folks!!

There's 68 of them in the park. Cedar Point doesn't want to pull people away from the park (i.e. away from spending money).

The entire area of Sandusky needs more places to go and things to do besides CP and Indoor waterparks. That's why my wife and I enjoyed Kings Island so much more than CP on this years vacation. The area surrounding it was filled with things for everyone to do. Not so much in Sandusky...

The LAST thing CP needs is a Dance Club. What a nightmare that would be.

101 on Magnum and counting...

Read "Cedar Point - Queen of American Watering Places" .... A dance hall is how CP got to where it's at today..

the music may have changed, but.....well Elvis was considered radical once too!! A well run dance club can't be more of a nightmare than waiting in line 1 hour for DT.

One of the best posts i've ever read on this site.

You simply have to charge admission.

I've actually seen folks at CP dish out $5 to try to climb a virtually horizontal rope ladder with only one centre hook at each end to get a $4 prize at best - if it can actually be accomplished (seems quite impossible to me). Reasonable cover charge, refreshments, maybe a Chet & Matts Pizza outlet could make a dance hall successful.

This could be a money maker, especially from guests that stay more than one night at a resort hotel, or guests would stay an extra night just for the fun.

Ok, then lets look at a couple other issues, because you are right, they would charge admission.

A) Supervision. You're not going to get the regular seasonals to supervise this. Kids barely listen to them inside the park, they aren't going to listen inside a dark noisy dance club.

B) Paying supervision. This kind of job is worth more than the minimum just because you will need 1 - adults (I know many ops are "adults" but that's a loose definition of adult), 2 - adults with plenty of patience to deal with teenagers who probably don't listen to their parents, much less someone who's not their parents.

C) Location. Where do you have it? The old dance hall is right on the Main Midway, and Cedar Point doesn't have upcharge attractions inside the park. That could change, but I doubt it. There aren't really any other on-point locations that would work for a dance club.

I just don't think it will be very likely to happen.

Perhaps you are right, it is not likely to happen, but it is an interesting concept and maybe doable.

Regarding the other issues;

A) & B) Supervision & Pay. No more responsibility than that any lifeguard has is required. CP has police on staff if needed...most kids do listen to their parents and/or authority figures.

C) Location. The 2nd floor of the Coliseum does not seem to get too much use lately, try that for starters. Fifteen years ago who would of have guessed of a Hotel Breakers Tower being built. Anything is possible I guess.

The park needs something for grown ups to do after the park closes when they're staying on-property. I've been saying that for years.

But dancing... that's immoral. ;)

Best point ever.

Dowtown Disney! Downtown Disney! Downtown Disney! --- Cmon everbody, if we chant it loud enough they will build it.. -- Downtown Disney! Downtown Disney!

I would have to vote NO WAY, if I was a cedar point exc. The problem I see is most teenagers dance in a non-family style way. I can see another NBC dateline (they've had many) with videos of drugs and dirty dancing and rape in the dark. Don't get me wrong, I know kids have all the energy in the world and it could be a money maker. But it only takes one bad thing to not only kill the idea, but also to tarnish the Cedar Point name. Not going to happen.

^^ - Are you saying that you support this idea?

The coliseum is what I was referring to as being the "old dance hall right on the main midway".

They do use the old dance hall. Just not as much. It could be used as a skating rink too.
