If any parks were in Katrina's way, I would say, GOODBYE. Way too much rain/wind/hail/tornadoes

You mean like Six Flags New Orleans. http://www.sixflags.com/parks/neworleans/index.asp

They are located right on Lake Pontchartrain with the gulf not to far away either.

Yeah I seen the park on TV for a few seconds, all flooded. In news articles they stated "Roller coasters jutted out from the water at the Six Flags amusement park in New Orleans East." I'm sure the winds had to of been 110mph+ in that area

Dont forget about coney island in ohio. It was located on the banks of I think the ohio river. It flooded so bad that the park was dismantled and what could be sold was.

WAS?

Coney Island still lives on just fine. I was there less than 2 weeks ago.

Anyone know of any pics of the park in its current moistened state?

.

No pics to be found on googles image search, yet.

However they're letting you use your tickets for NO at any other 6 flags park.

The current Coney Island is nothing like the real Coney Island was. The old Coney Island was a real park, with amazing coasters that were some of the best of their time. The current Coney Island is a joke.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Why are we talking about hurricanes or earthquakes? This is ohio. It is impossible for a hurricane to happen. I'm not trying to flame anyone, but come on people. Think smart here.

Because it is human nature to speculate about the impossible. So what if it is Ohio? Earthquakes are not just for California. There have been 2 minor earthquakes in Michigan in the 25 years I have been alive. And during the 19th century, there were 2 extremely powerful earthquakes in Missouri with tremors that were felt pretty far to the east.

As for hurricanes, the probability of them happening this far north is quite slim. But weather patterns change. Maybe one will hit a few hundred years in the future after we're all dead and gone. There's no harm in specutlation. Speculation doesn't make one stupid.

If some of you hadnt noticed Monday after the hurricane hit the gulf coast it SLOWED DOWN and quickly became very weak because it wasnt near the 90+ degree waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Since a hurricane slows down near land it cant get to the midwest as a hurricane(maybe as a tropical storm or depression) Look at the map for SF:NO, it would definately be flooded by the storm surge and/or the flooding as its on a currently flooded lake.

Earthquakes have occured in Missouri and Ohio, so one could hit CP but its a 99.999999999% chance that it couldnt bring a coaster down.

Tornados arent strong enough to bring down steel structures like MF by themselves. But lets say a tornado picks up a car or 2 and flings it at MF, a car might break the track or take out a support but wont demolish it. And most tornados are short and isolated events. I remeber going to Champaine IL after a tornado struck, on one side of the street was rubble, the other side had slightly damaged houses . *** Edited 9/3/2005 7:49:42 AM UTC by SFGA=toilet***

Once again it goes back to speculation. Anyone with a brain stem know the likelihood of major natural disaster destroying an amusement park is very slim but the what if's are interesting to wonder about. Besides, we wouldn't have a lot of the technology we have now if someone didn't ask "what if this happens?" or "what would happen if?".

It's downright heart-breaking to see and read what these people are going through. And the fact that they are just now getting the help they need is sick. There are people, babies dying.

I know I just went way off topic but after seeing the news and reading that thread, it makes me sad. We who live in the eastern Mid West have it pretty good.

Look at the map, the park is located right on Lake Pontchartrain, I can understand why it is submerged.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

They were showing some shots of SFNO on CNN yesterday and last night. It was crazy.

Well, at least SFNO has a good head start on a new waterpark! ;)

But seriously, I wonder how much of the park's rides will be a total loss (i.e. Mega Zeph), and how much can be salvaged. I'd imagine that steel track & supports, unlessed structurally damaged by debris, are still very usable.

Joking about this is not appropiate at this time (if ever).

*sigh*

See, I knew someone was gonna say something like that...

Have you ever tried to look for a silver lining? Is finding humor (that doesn't directly involve people's lives) such a crime? I think not. And finding appropriate humor in an otherwise grim situation is often helpful when dealing with said situation.

Lighten up there Slappy. Unless you have some personal relationship with that waterpark, it's mainly inanimate objects. It's not like he made jokes about the dead, homeless, or anything else for that matter that was dramatically ruined by the Hurricane.

Look away, do not read or laugh or whatever makes you comfortable. Just don't pee in someone elses wheaties.

Thank you - I was beginning to think that I was some sort of sick degenerate...

;)

Brandon

Maybe you are, djDaemon. I don't know.

J. Robert, my comment had absolutly nothing to do with coasters.
