"Welcome To Alaska"!!
2002 Totals: | MF:15 | WT:12 | Maggie:49 |Gemini:39 | DT:20 | Raptor:16 | Beaver net 4.0!
I am very much out of the official loop and my sources are admittedely worth crap, but if I take what I heard before the last two major announcements and juxtapose the information to what was actually announced, I can get a rough idea of what I THINK they might put in using what I have heard. Remember what I think is spurious at best and garbage at worst.
That said, I think it will be a coaster at this point in time, but I am not confident enough to give any specifics (other than I think it MIGHT be Intamin and it MIGHT be a glorified version of something already on the market.) Speculation is running rampant and I have no desire to add to the idiotic sensationalism. I personally doubt it will be above 400 feet tall faster than 100 mph, but I am sure Cedar Point will find a way to break an obscure record somehow, even if they start making up records like they did with Millennium Force. (And please don't criticize me for accusing the park of making up records, but I don't automatically grant something as "record breaking" just because it is the first time something has been tried. PR stunts are intended to attract crowds, and I like to think I can critically examine a ride's worth on my own level whilst sorting through the contrived pizzazz.)
I am excited to see what the announcement is going to be. My fingers are crossed...metaphorically, of course, because I am still typing somehow.

Like before MF was announced - I know clues were out there, but even aside from that it seemed there was a collective "imagining" of what was to come. If there is any validity to this admittedly airy-fairy theory, based on what I've heard and read the Magic Zeitgeist 8-Ball says:
Sit-down launched Intamin coaster, a la Xcelerator.
And there you have it. If I'm wrong, blame yourselves.

Yeah I have to say the peeps are getting smarter with every go around Jeff!
Smarter, or using bigger words? ;) :)
Personally, all I'm looking at is fact. There are 3 footers in a large space that's starting to grow grass by Magnum. That's all I know for sure. When I have any ideas though, I'll let you know.

- The Darling one
The closest I'll ever get to riding a B&M Flyer is looking down while on Raptor... :(
Much hype has surfaced because Knott's Berry Farm installed a popular launching coaster this past off-season. Many people have taken this as an indicator for bigger, better and similar things to come. A colorful pageant of ideas and suggestions have crossed my ears and eyes, only to be quashed by my logical mind. I think Spewey hit the nail on the head with the "airy-fairy" zeitgeist thing. Judging from recent installations, I also have a feeling that a lot of clues exist right under our noses. Is the Knott's installation one of them?
Before I get to that, I am going to define "zeitgeist" for the rest of the room. Simply, it is a thought, feeling or trend indicative of a period of time. (I don't have my dictionary handy, so don't assail me for slight inaccuracies.) Remember when B&M inverted machines were the rage and envy? Now, although they still might invoke rage and envy, they are being surpassed by newer, younger and fresher prototypes and ideas. Although the rides still exist and are still being built, the spirit of the mid-nineties invariably rears its head. Dangling feet are fun; however, they aren't revolutionary and the general excitement generated by these kind of rides has changed. Giga coasters and hypercoasters resurfaced when the 250 ft barrier was smashed at the turn of the century. Again, the sheer height of the machines making their debut for the new mllennium caused a euphoric rush within the enthusiast community. The coaster community is not without its trends, and Cedar Point is one of the major trendsetters. If something new on the market can be made a little higher, a little faster, a little more perfect somehow, Cedar Point rises to the occassion and delivers.
And now, without saying anything definitive and keeping my personal thoughts in mind, I am going to say that when I said it MIGHT be Intamin and it MIGHT be a glorified version of something on the market, I think I was allluding to something like that new-fangled, fancy thing at Knotts.
I can't wait to see how wrong I am. lol

It looks like MF island is going to be the home to a majority of this new ride. This is only my thought but I am sticking to it. If anyone doesn't see the area I'm talking about, e-mail me and I will send you a pic with the area circled. XoClumsy@aol.com
