Admission & Food Prices Dropped

I think CP might have something figured out here. If it's not the crazy admission price to get into the park, it has to be the food.

Like Walt said over at CoasterBuzz, this may be the bigger thing for 2006 than Skyhawk.

What do you have to say?

Lower prices, what's next? free pop! Ye Ha !!

It's good to finally see. Hot dog on a stick went from $2.65 in 2003, $2.95 in 04, and 2.99 this year. Hopefully my favorite item will be a little cheaper in 2006.

Both this year and last season, I have always left the park and gone to taco bell or ryans in the afternoon. If the prices are reasonable next year, then I'll definately be more likely to stay.

I dont understand why they deleted the senior discount to begin with.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I think dropping the junior price alone will make a huge difference. That's $15 per ticket...money that can be spent inside the park.

Dropping food prices, as well, will at least entice me to buy more food and snacks inside the park, and I'm sure it will entice families to do so more often.

Add to it a thrill ride with a shorter height requirement that entire families can ride together, and I think next season will be an improvement, attendance and ROI wise for CP.

I hope we see a little decrease in price at Midway Market, that's the only thing that keeps me out of there most of the time.

I don't really like to eat pure sugar, but for 25 cents a stick, I just might!

Makes me wonder if Dounut Time dounuts will be a good price next season. I love their dounuts. I think the prices over by Dragster to get like a Meatball sub are reasonable prices. I always go there if I have to eat something during the day.

My mom will be happier ;)

As of October 30, 2005, I have rode EVERY thrill ride at cedar point! Begining with the Raptor and ending with the Demon Drop.

Does this drop in prices also include dropping the price of bottled water/pop?

"Ive got the need, the need for speed!"

I think that the price drop is definately good. Last night in the Detriot Area Fox 2 News was hyping up a story about the price drops. They mentioned the $5 discount and the tallest giant swing for 2006. I have a feeling attendence will be way up next year.

Well hopefully this will bring more guests to the park next year. And I sure do hope they drop vending machine prices. At the bar outside of MF I got a large 40oz. soda for $2.50 and in line the machines are $3.00 for a 20oz. soda. That just doesnt make sense to me, but as long as people buy from the machines then they will stay.

One question is with the admission cuts if we will continue to see the deep discounting. It seemed in the past you could get anywhere form $8-$12 off with a pepsi can, buying form retail outlets, online cupons, etc….

I have a feeling that tickets from retail outlets will still be around $35 and a pepsi can might only get you $5 off next year. I think it’s better to go this route instead of a high gate price with deep discounting, which was getting out of hand. They might get more people who pay the full gate and aren’t worried about discounts. This could also lead to more spur of the moment trips.

This move might be the only thing saving them from attendance dropping below 3 million next year.

You'd be suprised at the volume of people who do pay full price for tickets as it is now, even with all the discounts available. Toledo news has also been hyping the price drops. The price drops got the headline in the newspaper and Skyhawk was just a footnote.

It's about time someone woke up over there. Since the mid-90s CP has gotten way too Disney World. I've been bringing most of my food and drink for the last few years (luckily the rooms have fridges and microwaves). 40 bucks for admission is nothing after you drop 80 bucks in a day on food. If the food was reasonably priced, I may actually start eating it again.

Most of the people I know who don't go much anymore always point to the rediculous food prices as their reason for not wanting to go.

Glad to see things turn in an optimistic direction. And yeah I think the price drops are bigger news than Skyhawk. Sure it'll be a decent ride, but it's no gigacoaster. I'm about as excited about Skyhawk as I'd be for a tilt-a-whirl.

Bring on the giga-log-flume. :)

It's funny that you mention Disney World. As far as food is concerned, I think WDW is a better value. It may not necessarily be cheaper (though in some cases it is), but I feel like it's worth what I pay - at least for a theme park setting.

Try to eat less when you go to parks, thats my advice. I've probably spent no more that $70 or $80 over my 10 or 11 days at the park for food this season. And try to remember the free water, because it really helps the wallet.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

As far as food is concerned, I think WDW is a better value. It may not necessarily be cheaper (though in some cases it is), but I feel like it's worth what I pay - at least for a theme park setting.

I just mentioned this on Coasterbuzz. This year, I noticed that I typically spend more on a Counter Service meal at CP than I did at WDW, but the WDW food is better, served more quickly, and in a much better setting---often with indoor seating.

(And while we're at it, parking at WDW is currently $9, just like CP, but that $9 also buys you a tram ride to the gates and back. Am I the only one who misses the CP tram?)

Tell that to my growing five year old son. :)

Part of the park experience is getting the food, IMO. Its a shame that WDW has less expensive and better-tasting food, and should be embarassing to CP. I'm excited that there are actions being taken, but we'll have to wait until next year to see just how seriously they are about responding to customer concerns.

A $0.25 reduction on a hot-dog-on-a-stick would be nice and all, but wouldn't necessarily be what I would consider a serious reaction to the customers' concerns. Now, couple that $0.25 with a $0.75 reduction on soda (cause soda probably has the highest profit margin) and a $0.50 reduction on cheese fries, and that makes me a very happy guy. They would have saved me $3 on myself and my gf - and that's just for lunch. :)
