accommodation jobs

I got hired today for the position telephone operator. Anybody else going to be working in accommodations, and where should I stay in housing? I process in on April 25th, I cannot wait.
Where at are you working in accommodations? I worked in hotel breakers housekeeping for 2 months last summer, but cut short of it due to many problems arising, let me know if you are working there, I'll tell ya what the job is like. As for housing, I would live in either bayside apartments or commons dormitories. I loved bayside the whole week I lived there, I was in commons apartment 1001 for almost 2 months before moving to bayside before I resigned.

Sara, you may have the option of staying in the hotel. (Don't get real excited. It is a "dorm" room with shared bathrooms but some prefer it because the room is decent and you just roll out of bed and go downstairs to work.)

You certainly want to consider it if you work the overnight shift.

I'm working in hotel breakers, and I think want to stay at bayside.

I just got hired yesterday as reception for Camper Village/Sandcastle. I have never worked at CP before. Anyone who has worked in this area before give me your thoughts on the postion.

By reception, do you mean front desk clerk? If so, you will have two of the nicest FOM's there! The job is not bad, it can get a little crazy during check-in time, but other than that, it's pretty simple. The hardest thing will be to learn the computer program and to make sure to keep track of your tickets.

Yes stardoors, I mean front desk clerk. I have another question. What opportunities for advancement are there in accomodations? I'm not expecting to be silver tag or anything but I'm just looking for tips on how to make blue or double blue the fastest. Also, what does FOM stand for? (I figure it must be a manager of some kind but I'm a newbie so I don't know the lingo yet.)

Edit: Added an addtional question.

Learn your job and if asked to work nights, do it! In Accommodations you can move up REAL fast, usually by becoming a night auditor/FOM (Front Office Manager). It seems that they go through alot of Managers in a season and towards the end of the season you can get some nice hours.

Thanks for the info, I have no problem working nights as I've had a 3rd shift job before. Also, I'm a wiz with numbers and have past supervisory experience (non CP). I'm just gonna do what I have to prove myself.

If you aspire to the night auditor job that might be great for you. Those are often difficult positions to fill. The fringe benefit is better pay and...POSSIBLY...your own room (because of the unusual hours).

night audit at sandcastle is borrrrring.. all you do is print some reports and do your expresses everything is done at hotel breakers so if you do get the night audit position at sc make sure you take a lot of reading material so you aren't too bored
Yeah, plus they already have a night auditor there (at SC)...maybe at Breakers, do you need anyone else fuball? ;)

It is possible to move up in the ranks, just show that you have leadership ability and that you know your stuff, maybe even tell your Silver tag that you want to possibly move up in the ranks. As far as I know (and I might be wrong with this, but last I heard this was true) they were looking for another FOM for Sandcastle. That was a few weeks ago though. It possible that once you get there, you can move up!

Quit making it sound like you do all the work furball. The real workers are the bellmen & security (when you can keep track of them)

Sandcastle is VERY boring all the time. All you really deal with is people complaining about the bugs.

i worked at sandcastle last year and had fun :)

I had another question. I've heard people on here that work in the park talking about OC's like 7 days per week during peak season. This dosen't bother me at all as it seems like a good opportunity to rack up some hours. I was just wondering if this happens a lot in accomodations, more specifically, Camper Village front desk postions which is what I'm hired for. If anyone can answer I appreciate it.

If you are willing to do something else besides front desk it may be possible. I know some desk clerks that got extra hours in housekeeping, on CV grounds crew, reservations, etc.

I see so the front desk position itself keeps pretty standard hours but someone in that position has the option to take on addtional jobs for extra hours. Thanks for the info Chief.

It depends on how many clerks are hired for the front desk, but I know a lot of times, if you want extra hours, they will give you extra hours. Just ask, and your manager will try to be as accommodating as possible.

Also, like Chief Wahoo said, you can pick up extra hours in grounds, housekeeping, etc. I remember last year they had a number you could dial to pick up extra hours elsewhere in the park, they might have it this year also.
