2022: The Cedar Point of the Future

It is interesting to look back at threads such as these and see where we are now. Granted, we are still 6 years away from 2022, but to reflect on DJ's original question, the pace of coaster building (at least major) has slowed as one would expect.

Between 1989 and 2003 (14 years), the park built 7 major coasters; a pace of 1 every other year. That is pretty amazing. Toss in Woodstock Express and it's even more amazing.

Between 2004 and 2016 (12 years) the park has built 3 major coasters (Maverick, Gatekeeper, and Valravn), converted Mantis into Rougarou, and added the mid-major Pipe Scream.

Still, that's technically 5 coaster installations in 12 years, still close to a 1 every-other-year pace.

Not bad for a mature park. Granted, Pipe Scream is what it is, and Rougarou wasn't a "from the ground up" installation, but still, I would say the pace hasn't fallen off too much considering the coaster wars seem like a distant memory.

Promoter of fog.

It is probably because Cedar Fair invested in the Paramount parks. They had to buy new rides for them. Cedar Point, being their number one source of income, would have gotten more rides since Cedar Fair wouldnt have to average out the distribution of investments. I know it isn't exactly average because of Valley Fair and Michigans Adventure but they had to buy big rides.

SV ruins all other rides.

LOL...This thread would have been deleted in modern days, but it is pretty cool to look back on this thread over the years.
