2022: The Cedar Point of the Future

You won't have to visit Cedar Point in 2022. Just fit your P.E.D. (Personal Experience Device) over your face and for the low season pass price of $3000.95 you and, say, Angelina Jolie (who will still be very hot then) will be able to experience all of Cedar Point's 1016 roller coasters as well as the other 2059 rides and attractions over and over again. You'll even be able to ride the Mill Race and the Tiki Twirl. Free parking, too.

Think I'm kidding?

I'm the oldest one here. CP emp '73-'74

I see Cedar Point building themselves into more of a resort within the next 17 years or so. Almost doing what Universal Orlando did, where they took out their entire parking lot, built parking structures somewhat offsite, then replaced the area with hotels and park expansions. I think it'd be wise for Cedar Point to do that.

As far as coasters go. Sure they'll be taking some out. I think its time for some of them to go anyways. Take Disaster Transport and Cedar Creek Mine Ride. Those may be great family rides - but they're totally outdated. Disaster Transport is way too short to even be that fun of a ride, and Mine Ride doesn't thrill people even if they are a kid. They can replace them with rides that are just as mild - but a bit more fun.

I don't see them taking out Corkscrew anytime soon. What would be the point of it? It barely takes up any room. They might as well just keep it there, its sort of a Cedar Point landmark anyways.

Forget regrets, or life is yours to miss!

For RollerNut and any others that are wondering as to why I chose 2022 as the "future" CP year...

Well, as of the start of next season, Maggie will have been running since 1989 or 17 seasons, and 2022 is 17 seasons from 2005. I realize that there is an overlap of a year, but nobody's perfect, right?

Now, the reason I chose the year Maggie debuted is that was the year the so-called "coaster wars" were (by general opinion) kicked off.

What will be gone in 2022? Any ride classified as too risky by the liability insurance actuaries >Chaos<, anything without available spare parts, or something too duplicative of another ride.

The new stuff? A floating casino (harbored at Castaway Bay with bubblers in the water to keep away ice), a big new hotel and golf course on E. Cleveland Ave, water taxi service to Kelly's Island, big-name entertainers performing concerts to draw different demographics, and simulators instead of rides with a big footprint.

Yesterday I was thinking about how amazing CP Cinema was when it premiered. What spectacular technology will be around to wow people like that, hundreds at a time?

Just say no to trims

Simulators? Maybe in addition to, but never in place of real coasters...

The casino would not be in the park, CP stated that it would be off-point somewhere.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,

TRIP REPORT FOR AUGUST 18, 2022!!!

So, I drove down from Detroit to Pepsi Cola's Cedar Point amusement/gambling/indoor waterpark resort. Parked my car at the Parking lot in Sandusky and took the ferry over to the park...man there's a lot of rides here. Can you believe that the front of the park used to be the parking lot? Man, looks like they're running out of space...

Took a ride on the Son of Nestea Plunge, which was great. Nothing like taking a wonderful plunge through Lake Erie and then on the beach. And to think that I used to believe there would never be a coaster that dove into the lake.

Rode WT, which seemed to be working fine. Short lines, though. Hm. Didn't that ride used to be popular? But while I was at it I got to take the lil tyke on Disaster Transport. He slept like a baby. They should tear that monstrosity down one day.

While riding the Big 700, I got gret view of the park. Hard to believe that the Iron Dragon is the oldest ride at the park. An oldie but a goodie, though.

While I was there, I talked to the Lemon Chill guy. He said that chances are that Top Thrill Dragster will most likely have it's first perfect season in 2025. Seems like thye've been doing maintenance on it forever!

Too bad about the space sprial incident last year. The smog was so bad that plane didn't even see it!

Before I left for the day, I stopped by the Magnum Memorial site. What a tragedy that was last year. The ride was at full capacity and then it just...sank. With all those people on board. Why did everyone ignore the warnings and say they were just an April Fool's Day prank.

Dude, that's pretty funny. I don't see things changing that fast though. When I was a kid back in the 70s, we thought we'd be flying around in cars and having robots do our housework in 2005. Things just don't change as much as you think they will in 20 years.

Magnum XL-200 will still be in the top 10.

When will then be now?!
Soon.

Robots can do our housework now .. at least the vacuuming part. They are also cutting the grass.

Half way their, Still waiting for that Casino! :P Pretty cool reading these old post and seeing where the park is now.

I have gambled at all Casinos in Ohio. I live 1 hr away from Toledo & Cleveland. Cedar Point is 30 minutes from where I live. I would like them to build one. Some of my relatives don't care for Cedar Point. If that ever happens the Parking Lot will be Filled.
