^ Technically there were some children's rides occupying the space where Pipe Scream is. I'm not sure what became of them though.

Seems like it would be pure hell on a B&M to leave the track and slam back down on it over and over.
That doesn't occur because of sloppy wheel contact, it happens because the ride doesn't have the smooth parabolic curves of a modern ride.

I love Magnum and it is one of my favorite rides. With that said, it seems like it was something in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 built in real life. The game does not allow smooth transitions and Magnum for the most part Magnum lacks them. It is one of those rides you will ride, say that it was rough, and get back on 5 minutes later for round two. They say if it's not broken, don't fix it, and Magnum is far from broken.
Note: I know Magnum was built long before RCT came out.
By the way, I do understand the historic value of the trains and the character that the roughness gives the ride. I am not saying that they should-- or even could-- do trains like SD2000, however I just think it would make the ride more comfortable to the general public.
For those complaining about the trains on Magnum...
How long have you been around, riding coasters at Cedar Point?
Are you old enough to have ridden the Blue Streak prior to 1996?
If you did ride the Blue Streak before its trains were modernized...do you really think they are better now?
Doy you really believe you can trust anyone in the amusement industry in 2015 to build a new set of trains for Magnum and NOT screw it up?
We have seen Cedar Point cheap out on the car bodies (stickers!) and mess up the safety system (Ride those brakes into the station!) already, messing up things that have little or no impact on the ride. Do you really think that anything they do with the seats will end up being an improvement?

Smooth rides are good don't get me wrong, but how can someone not like a little roughness on a ride every now and then. Magnum being the way it is makes it one of my favorite rides in the park. Same goes with Maverick. I love how maverick gives you the wild thrill flipping and turning you in different directions. I like a ride that is so intense that it won't even let you scream.

Computerized coasters are all over the place. Magnum is something truly unique, and nothing like it will ever be built again. It's good to have a variety.

You kids and your smoothness. Never would've made it as enthusiasts back then.
Back in my day, we had to ride roller coasters uphill, both ways, in the snow. You kids have it easy.
I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.
Seems like every thread about a new attraction quickly turns into tearing down an existing coaster. As if the investment made into these record breaking coasters were comparable to a car that's going to be traded in as soon as it's paid off. I understand the desire for the newest and best. As far a cars a person might be able to trade in a car at 100,000 miles for a new one. But coasters are a little more expensive. It's more of a collection of coasters. There would be no reason to take one out to get a new one. Just add another one.
For 2016 I hope they put the dive coaster in. Hopefully they leave enough room underneath or beside for the dark ride we're going to get in the near future. Supposedly every park is going to get one. Maybe in 2017. Hope to see some more of the park operations moved out of the park to free up some room. I'll be disappointed if the cedar dorms aren't removed for the coaster. I'd like to see some interaction with perimeter road instead of having it moved. They could put up a 6 story building with a smaller footprint somewhere. Would also like to see the dinosaurs taken out within the next 4-5 years. To bad that they can't put in a topspin ride like the TombRaider ride that KI had at one time. I know that it had issues. But was bad ass when it was new.
Hope that whatever comes it doesn't have to be by subtraction. It doesn't add to the park if every addition includes a demolition of a ride. Rougarou was hardly an addition in my opinion. It was a improvement of the ride itself. But in my opinion is pretty comparable to putting new tires on a car. In all reality I think we'll be lucky to see a major addition to the park every 3-5 years. Figuring they own 10 other parks. That's 2 or 3 major attractions a year for all the parks combined.
I definitely never said anything about tearing Magnum down, I think only that one guy did but that is far too extreme as it is still a good coaster with history and tearing it down shouldn't even be discussed for at least another decade, if not more. And you're right, I am too young to have experienced blue Streak in the 90's, but technology has gotten far better now than it was then. Changing trains would not affect the fact that it wasn't built by computers either, and it would still have those familiar jolts, I just think they'd be more fun with less pain. I guess us Millennials are just too fixated on the newest technology :P
(And to answer Rideman's question about whether I think doing something with the seats would really make a difference, yes. Yes I do, however like others have said, the added comfort would take away from the character of the ride).
TTD6262: So certain are you that new trains would be "more comfortable."
Have you ridden Lightning Run at Kentucky Kingdom?
I can pretty much guarantee you that if any of the major players in the industry today were to build new trains for Magnum, you could expect at minimum to see something like Lightning Run:
o A seat horn between your legs
o A form fitting seat
o An overly tight lap bar with no play in it
o A restraint over your legs or ankles (or both)
and most likely (practically guaranteed if B&M are involved)
o headrests
Like it or not, that's where the industry is going these days. Personally, I don't like it. You ride in some of these new-style trains and even the Morgan bathtub trains (as on Wild Thing, Steel Force, Mamba) start to look attractive. I'll stick with the old Arrow cars, thankyouverymuch.

Wow RideMan you nailed it about Blue Streak! As a kid I would ride with my dad (he's about 6'4", 250lbs) and this was with a single seat belt and lapbar for two people. I would go flying around the car on that ride, it was amazing.
Things have changed. On youtube there is a video of BS in the 90s. They were checking restraints as the train rolled out. Imagine that happening now.

Yes, Rideman, I do in fact trust that someone would be able to. As I have posted before, the new trains for Steel Dragon 2000 were an overwhelming success and completely reinvigorated the ride. That's just one example, but it shows that it's very possible. Once again, I'm Not saying it ever will or should happen, all I said is it would likely reduce the pain that MOST people endure on the way back.
Have people really become much more fragile and delicate compared to what they were in 1989?
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I think it is more of a case where the new rides are so much smoother than what 1989 offered that anything less than the new ride is viewed as not as good or enjoyable.

No. They've gotten weaker, less willing to accept personal responsibility, and more inclined to file a lawsuit to make up for: (their lack of personal responsibility OR not getting what they want)
