2016 announcement time

I'm curious as to whom the aforementioned "lots of people" are that have stated that the old Arrows are a maintenance nightmare. I am not calling into question the reliability of anyone's sources, I am just saying that the Arrows seem to me to be relatively simple machines. Especially when compared to the current crop of technological marvels produced by B&M, and Intamin. I admit, I don't know much about roller coaster mechanics, other than the most basic things. But I do know that every wrench I know prefers simple machines to those that are more complex. For obvious reasons.

Magnum would be twice as good to the general public if they pulled off a Steel Dragon 2000 and replaced the trains (More specifically the lap bars) with the custom B&M trains, if that's even possible of course. I hear that ride got waaayyyyyy less painful when they did that.

I am one of the vocal members of my inner circle championing new trains for Magnum. For multiple reasons one mainly due to comfort. I would love to see B&M engineer something for this ride. However, IF the park decided to purchase new trains I have a feeling we would see something from Chance Morgan.

As long as they are open and comfortable I think the park would have a winner. Not only would new trains with better lap restraints improve comfort then new open body designs would improve load and dispatch times.

This thread is already lulz.
But it is interesting that since TTD, no roller coaster has been built without some other attraction coming down. At least I think.

Magnum is great the way it is and it is a park icon, like Blue Streak. I prefer it over MF any day and I'll take Magnum's ride characteristics over any modern B&M hyper or giga. Let people who enjoy their rides a little on the rough side have their fun without trying to make everything silky smooth.

Currently, B&M trains are not designed to run on a track design like Magnum's. Magnum's guide wheels run on the inside of the track while B&M guide wheels run on the outside of the track. I highly doubt B&M would create a new fabrication to build trains for a Magnum refit.

Need to leave Magnum alone. Its a classic and my personal favorite in the park, especially at night.

Here is B&M track vs. Arrow track:

Pretty sure if they wanted too, meaning having a client willing to pay. B&M could easily design trains for Arrow/Morgan track. They are a engineering firm in the end with some of the best designers in the business. It just takes someone willing to pay them. I mean they were able to finally figure out how to convert a stand-up into a floorless. All they would have to do is figure out where Arrows heartline is.

Then that opens a whole new business segment for parks looking for modern trains. Not saying it will happen, since Morgan would probably be the easier choice for new trains but it could. Just takes that one customer.

Magnum was not designed to the heartline, it was designed the same way as Gemini. Heartline is something B&M came up with to make their rides smoother. Magnum is great because it was not designed like modern rides. Those B&M trains from Steel Dragon would be awful on Magnum, they would change the entire character of the ride. Besides, Steel Dragon has the guide wheels on the outside, not on the inside like the Arrow rides.

New lap bars with better padding and new seat belts that do not have the massive buckle digging into your stomach would be a great start. Along with new foam inserts for the seats. I think Magnum is 10x more enjoyable and funner that a coaster like Diamondback. Diamondback is a good ride but it just doesn't have much character compared to Magnum. It seems to sterile and bland, compared to a ride like Magnum.

A world breaking dive coaster with crazy high capacity is a fantastic addition to CP.

I would love a B&M that is a cross between MF and Magnum. Smooth but major ejector hills. A little more intense than Behemoth or Diamondback.

Easily, eh? You're assuming that the trains are the biggest issue, and not the track that was designed with slide rules and pencils.

Now Jeff, Apollo 13 did it when they converted the LM to a lifeboat. And just in case, yes I'm joking.

My hope for 2016 is that they use the area behind the fence to build a bigger and better Midway Market. Maybe above the monorail station.

Is there any B&M trains (B&M coasters) that are put through that amount of slamming up and down like Arrow trains? Seems like it would be pure hell on a B&M to leave the track and slam back down on it over and over.

The heartline reference was sarcasm...

And yes for an engineering firm like B&M I don't see wheel orientation posing huge issues. But you are correct the biggest issue to me for Magnum other then the painful lapbars is the jarring transitions. That will not be able to be corrected by any train, but new comfier restraints can go a long way to making a ride more comfortable.

And sorry to the fanboys and those who enjoy rough rides. To me there's rough and then there's the feeling of going 3 rounds in a UFC cage. I prefer to avoid the later.

I'm not sure how this thread evolved into a discussion about Magnum, but yes, it needs left alone. Not only is the ride a landmark for Cedar Point, it's a landmark for the entire coaster universe. The way Magnum rides is reflective of the way it was designed.

If anything, the only change that Magnum could use would be bringing the tunnel(s) back to life in all their former glory.

Promoter of fog.

When riding Magnum a couple of years ago we noticed it was a little rough on the transitions. Upon looking at the trains if you notice the wheel underneath the track is tiny and doesn't touch the track when the train is sitting on top. so when there is an airtime hill the jarring occurs with that space. couldn't they just make the wheel a little bigger so it maintains some sort of contact at all times. This could smooth things out without Changing trains

Wait, did I miss a confirmed August announcement announcement sometime a few weeks ago?

When Magnum was new, there was no rubber on the seats, lap bars or handle bars nor were there any seat belts. It was more fun sliding all over but it was difficult to ride 2 days in a row because the bars had beaten up our laps so badly.
Magnum didn't have rollers under the track, either. I remember waiting for the black train because it had the best rear ejector seat. Ahhh, the good old days.

Pipe Scream! The most important coaster in the park!
