??? Capacity

I was there sunday and saw the green train launch i believe it had all 5 cars on the train, but i wasn't really seeing how many cars were there just watching it go up crest drop, wasn't counting cars. i went back on monday aswell and i didn't see any testing while i was there tho. wasn't there that long wither so that is probably why i am sure everyone is jumping the gun on this and needs to relax a bit. but hey if they have problems with 5 cars why not run 4 cars then no cars at all!

Besides the great rides and being the best of everything, the best part about Cedar Point is that it isn't Six Flags! YAY!

1125 sounds right to me. Hey - if they achieve that number, which seems pretty possible, it will still be better capacity than MF! :)

According to the Cedar Point website they can get 1,600 riders per hour on MF. If that ever actually happens, that's a different story! The first season it opened they seemed to move the trains faster, one train was cresting the lift hill just as one train was clearing the first block at the end of the ride. Now you barely ever see the train half way up the lift on the beginning of the lift hill before the train before finishes the course. Has the crew just been lazy the past few years or did they make a change to the ride program, making it not possible to operate the way it used to?

Opening Day, just a few long days away!

MF never has, and never will do 1,600 pph. Not ever.

Dragster could, before they plugged it in, in theory, launch one train every 30 seconds. If that still holds true, you're still looking at 1,440 pph.

I think it's all academic anyway. I bet they open with full-length trains on May 10.

Yea i hope thats true, I remember at the end of March they have started launching 5 car trains very slowly. Apperently something went wrong.

I just dont see how this can happen if they made a "test track". Anyway, I really hope its just a temporary thing.

Uh, the "Train in unload position" seems to have four cars, and the one on the drop is too small to count. I'd wager it's four, though.
It really looks like we will only have 4 cars for a while. If anyone remembers, Volcano only operated with 8 seats per train its opening year. It now has the designed 16. It is also an Intamin launch coaster. I spoke with one of the construction workers that year, and he said they had a problem with the 2 launch coasters (Volcano and Flight of Fear) drawing too much power on the same grid. I wonder if Intamin is having similar problems again. I hope it is just a power issue and not that the hydraulic engines can't launch a 5 car train over.
Front Seat Rider, you may be on to something there. Since TTD shares the same line with Wicked Twister, one can only imagine how much power would be going through that line if TTD and Wicked Twister were to launch at the same time.

It's not a power issue. WT and Dragster operate on the same dedicated line from the mainland, and it hasn't reached nearly the load it can handle.

Besides, Dragster will use more of a constant electrical load to pressurize the launch system rather than at one big push like WT.

Right. And the actual launch doesn't use electric power. The electric power is used to pressurize the system. Once pressurized, that nitrogen does all the work.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Now that it's official, what do you think CP will do with the 5th car?

Monty before first ride on TTD- "I’ve ridden dozens of coasters across the country. Then why did Top Thrill Dragster scare the dickens out of me?"
I have a feeling its just temporary, they hopefully are just doing what they can to get it open for the weekend, like MF in 2000. They still have another week to monkey with it so lets not get the panties in a bundle over something so stupid! Just be grateful it will be running for you guys on opening weekend, unlike some parks with their new rides.........cough........Six Flags!

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, sorry if it has. On CP's web site under TTD VIP Driver Imformation there is writing on the left that says, "There will only be 12 seats instead of 16 seats." It also tells you the top 96 bids. Just thought you'd like to know.

I'm pretty sure that this was what all the fuss is about. ;)

Okay, speaking of ride capacity, did anyone time the average and/or fastest time between trains? Was it hitting the theoretical maximum at all, with any consistency?
It was Media Day. They weren't trying to hit capacity numbers, but I can see how it could be easily done. Oh yeah, and at least with me, they didn't staple me. Snug but not uncomfortable at all.

No, they weren't trying for maximum throughput. Between loading media folk on the train from the right side of the platform to just making sure they were comfortable with the ride, that was not the goal. However, I did count about 47 seconds between launches on one interval between the pair (red and green), so that is encouraging.

Remember, they apparently haven't had the ride signed over to them for very long.
