Call home, go to movies, write postcards, go to the library and get a good book, invite friends up to see you with your free tickets, make new friends.

I would say the best thing to do is make a lot of friends at CP. Then by the end of the summer when you go home or where ever else your travels take you, you'll be homesick and want to go back to CP.

Yeah, I'm homesick for CP right now!! And it's all because of the awesome friends I've made working there.

I'm so homesick for CP right now it's not even funny. The people there became my family when I was without one. I'll admit that most of the people on my buddie list are some how related to CP. I actually have a count down to CP programed into my cell phone. You might get home sick every once in a while, call home, and then you'll be healed...but it's a place full of excitement and lasting friendships. Even the ever pessimestic Dan doesn't regret it, because it will be an adventure.

Hey you know what Adam, for a lot this is their first time being truly away from their families. It was for me last year and had been going to school 60 miles from my home. So unless you have something intellegent to add to the conversation, just shut it.

As for you Matt, you're not alone. This is not an easy move for a lot people. But if you go into it with an open mind, it will make the transition easier. Also you may run into people that go to your school. Last year there was 5 of us that went to Oakland. Seeing a semi familiar face or meeting someone from your hometown is always great. Also bring lots of calling cards so that you can call home when you feel the need too. And if it helps, I was driving down I-75 crying the day left and I'm not ashamed to say so.

The problem is you can't tell people's tones when posting online. We don't know if you were sarcastic, or screaming, or soft, or happy, or whatever.

Lets leave it at that.

I agree with Adam--your 18, you've most likely had a year of college, and trust me, the beer and women flow a lot more at CP than they probably do at your house...one month in your mom will call and you will be like "who are you?" Of course--my parent seemed to constantly make appearences for living 4 hours away, but hey if my dad was butying drinks for people on my 21st at Louies, just like he was a regular, I guess they arent so bad...but homesickness? Please, just find some lonely Colombian girl, you'll be all set

I'm gonna side with Annie on this one, because I've seen a lot of people quit early on in the season because they are homesick. It's got nothing to do with age, if this is your first time away from your hometown for any extended period of time and you don't know anybody up here there's a pretty good chance you will feel a little homesick. But like Sabrina and Lee said, if you stick it out until the end, then you'll find yourself homesick for CP when you are at home, kinda a wierd feeling but it definately says a lot about the place!

i have to agree with annie on this one...i can't seem to find any humor in this statement even if it is being read in a sarcastic manor. each person has there own personalities, and no offence, but i hope that no one would listen to Blue Streak Adam when it comes to making thier decision. I go straight from my last final to CP, and I go from my last day at CP to school to start the fall semester. There are plenty of times that i miss my family and wish that my job and education would allow me more breaks to be with them. CP has been a family away from home for me. The people you meet and experiences you have make me never regret my decision to start at CP or to come back. I am really excited about this season. anyway..back to the topic....make yourself a little box of stuff from home...just some pics or something to look at, get a good phone card, try to convince your family to come up and take advantage of your 4 free tickets, talk about...if you are homesick, talk about, get it in the open so your friends can help you...if you keep it bottled up people aren't going to want to be around you because you will start to become negative and that will have an affect on you and the job. goodluck..and if anyone ever needs to talk, go for a beer, play some cards or a board game in the rec center, look me up ... psumagnum@aol.com or15210 commons

At any rate Matt, if you stick it out you'll probably love. or at least have a strong liking for it. Don't just give it up after a month because you'll miss out on an interesting summer.

I do the exact same thing. I am done here this Saturday and will be at CP the next day, and when my contract is done in August I will be going back to school the next day. Every extra second at CP is worth it, and I wouldn't change a thing. It becomes my second home.

Hey guys....just as a reference, the best phone card i have ever gotten (and i use them all the time-long distance relationship) is from either Walmart or Sam's Club. They are both the same company. You get all your minutes and you get a ton for a little bit of money. My parents got me one with 1000 minutes on it for about $35.00.
