Working at Cedar Point

As another example of low staffing, I was contracted to STR, but I arrived at CP before it was open, and was able to stay until after it closed for the season. Prior to it opening I was trained at ripcord, and after it was closed I was mainly sent to Camp Snoopy, but because it's not open on Fridays and closed early on Saturdays of HalloWeekends, I was also trained at Maverick, Rougarou, and Pipe Scream/Lake Erie Eagles for when they needed an extra person.

The split shifts sound fun. I thought the split shifts are to cover for people who need breaks. I guess not.

Splits are pretty much the opposite shift from the breaks. They occasionally get asked to work through their split to help another ride out if they need break help. The people who come in at 11:30 usually start the break rotations and they usually stay until close. The O8s (cutback) get to go home when the last break returns in the evening.

Rides have a bunch of shifts O-C, O-1:30pm, 6:30-C,and etc.
Rides get the most hours. I was going to apply for security at the park but they don't get as many hours as the rides dept does. I am assuming that's the only position that gets more hours.
If your ride location is in the back of the park it won't give you enough time to go to the cafe to eat? As to where the rides in area two and 1 is close to the cafe and the park ops building. Since I work at Disney before I guess I should try CP due to they are two different companies. They both are good companies to work for.

Going to the cafe really depends on what ride you're at. A lot of rides you could make it there and back during your break easily, other rides not so much. However, there is Stockade in the back of the park, if you like cheeseburgers, chicken fingers and fries or plan on packing your own lunch.

I will say this, alot of these questions albeit good info will all get explained once you're hired, inprocessed, and begin training. You'll learn on your feet there pretty quick. For instance in a swing shift I could get back, do laundry, nap, get the dorm clean, shower, exchange uniforms, get the new ones ready, and go to the mall in just a few hours before coming back to close the ride. Just gatta move with a sense of urgency :P

From what I heard, Valravn will be Area 2 along with Planet. And I also hear Windseeker may be back in Area 1.

Windseeker went Area 2? I thought it was always Area 1 considering I kept seeing it staffed by Planet, and I think Planets TL or ATL ended up transferring over there didn't they?

Windseeker was Area 2 this year, but for the longest time I thought it was Area 1. I've also heard Valravn will be Area 2, but I haven't heard for windseeker or planet switching this season. It would make sense though

Windseeker was Area 1 during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. '13, '14, and '15 it was in Area 2.

Yeah, apparently they break the areas up by staffing and not size. I never knew that until recently. Because area 2 is so big, I guess they have the least staff needed. It makes sense if you think about it though. Area 1 has had Kiddie and Planet. And Area 3 has Camp. Those 3 areas right there alone require quite a bit of staffing.

Wow, I can't believe I've been working for CP as long as Windseeker has been there. Officially lifer status.

^That's interesting, and totally makes sense. I always thought it was just physical space.

Same here. That's why I was confused why they put Windseeker in Area 2 a few years ago haha

Split shifts suck....I would rather work o-c than a split.

Split shifts were my favorite. I got so much laundry done, along with a nice long nap

I love splits myself. I would always ask to pick up hours or learn a new ride. If nothing was available then I would take a long lunch and catch up with people in Bistro then either drive back to Commons and sleep or I would change out of my uniform and go enjoy the park for a few hours.

The only time I wasn't a fan of them were on parking ban Saturdays because the crowds in the park make it difficult to go ride things and it takes forever to go to Commons and back so I often didn't bother. (That's the biggest benefit to Cedars dorms btw). I ended up bringing a book with me on the handful of times I had a Saturday split and went out to my car and read or dozed for a bit. Those are also a good time to blow your paycheck in Pagoda

Lol that's one thing I'm not sure how I feel..it's far from a bistro haha. I've never seen a bistro serve day old brats or boscos :P

^I didn't find the bistro food that bad, especially compared to stockade.

I had splits quite a few of the parking ban Saturdays, since I lived in Cedars because my supervisor tried to not make people have to take the bus 4x in one day on parking bans. Most of the time I did my laundry and took a long nap savoring the air conditioner.
