Here is an interesting question. Does CP just simply pick someone to be one of those "guess your....." people or do they "train" someone to do it? HMMMMMM

I think they pick people that have a special talent for bringing people over to their game. It does take some talent to guess that stuff

I tell you, I wouldn't want that job.

female guest: "guess my age"
guesser: "I'm going to guess 39"
female guest: "I'm only 26. What are you trying to say?"

or

female guest: "guess my weight"
guesser: "I'm going to guess 145 lbs."
female guest: " I'm only 105. What, do I look fat?"

I worked that game at another park for a couple of years. No special training. After 1 week of trying it is pretty easy to tell that one 200 pounder looks like another 200 pounder and so forth. You get the picture.

I once guessed a woman's age too high and she slapped me. Could have filed charges against her but it was actually pretty funny after the fact so I let it go. Hey, she got a 75 cent prize (after paying $2 to play). She should be so lucky!

It's not based on who can bring in the most people. There are many employees that can easily work the guessing game without a problem. Actually it's more political. NO longer are there guys being weight guessors. I believe there should be a guy and a girl at each guessing location like it's been in the past. Perhaps they believe girls will attract more revenue, but that seems awkward. I have been observing and felt the guessors lacked ethusiusm and seemed somewhat unfriendly to speak bluntly. NO offense to them while I gather my thoughts. Many of the guessors I have met through the past years have big egos while they lack the talent speaking on the microphone...lol This is coming from a season pass holder for the past 15 years.

As long as the person is a good flirt, they will make a good guesser. That, and the where-with-all to know that losing helps the business. Guessers with egos that only want to be right all of the time chase players away.

There isn't a prize up there worth more than a buck fify and they are charging what? Two, three dollars to play? I win, I win. I lose, I win!

So, is there any way to tell the birthday at all? Do people born in different months have different personalities (it's possible, when you're born really depends when the parents want, and that can depend on personality?) Or is it not that scientific :)

Actually it's just statistics as far as birthdays go. If I remember correctly they have to guess within 3 months of your b-day. Well if you do the math that's a 7 month span (3 before 3 after and the month of your birthday) so they have slightly over a 50% chance to guess correctly.

Well, it is a little more than statistics for the birthday. Lots of people wear their gem stone on jewelry. I have also seen people with their class graduation date on a necklace, t-shirt, etc.

Sometimes family/friends push the contestant up to the guesser as part of their birthday. Pretty easy to tell if a group is their celebrating a birthday.

Granted, the statistics are in the guesser's favor.

You'll note that the game has gone to the ridiculously high price of $5 this year. It was just 2 years ago, wasn't it, that it jumped to $2?

I thought it had been $2 for quite a few years, but I agree that $5 is ridiculous, unless they've REALLY upgraded the prizes!

This year they have better prizes. Now they have medium stuffed animals. At some locations you have a choice of $2 or $5 dollar game.

I had to chuckle when I read "now they give medium stuffed animals". (I wonder how much the game is going to cost when they start offering large animals... $10??!) Cedar point IS moving up in the scale of their prizes! LOL
Seriously... my sister went this year, played that game, and came home w/ a really cute rainbow dolphin that was quite large ... now I know why, she must have done the $5 one!:P

but, you have to remeber, the value of those pizes in a park that sells $2.50 20oz pepsi products is much more than that 5 bucks reflects ;)

Brian worked games at Kennywood for years and was telling me that those prizes aren't as cheap as we all think they are. Those big stuffed animals are costly...they're just counting on you spending a ton to get one. So it's not too hard to see where the cost comes from.

The big stuffed animals are not given out at the scales game because you don't see repeat players. Those animals are won at games like the water races, etc. because only one person at a time can win.

I currently work the guessing game and I can tell you we are definitely not trained. They just put people there that are skilled at persuading people to come play the game, who enjoy talking and interacting, people who are energetic and are comfortable on the mic.. I LOVE working the Guessing Game!
