Incident on Millennium Force

I saw something today which is a perfect example of some of the crap Park Employee's have to deal with, and this is coming from a non-employee.

Today (5/15) on Millennium Force, around 4 would be my guess there was an incident. An op was checking a man's lap bar in Seat 4-2R I believe and he started yelling things like "stop, that's sexual harassment" and pointing at the op. Another op came over (Don I believe, or some other man with a 3 letter name!) and tried to calm him down but the man kept yelling. A big Scene was made. 3 cops were called in and they removed the man from his seat to go to park operations I presume. Several Witness's stated that the operator in no way, "Sexually harassed " the man and interviews were made. The delay took about 10 minutes and was without a doubt the weirdest thing I have ever saw on a ride platform.

During the whole incident the crew kept its cool. It's amazing as a whole how park employee's deal with situations like this, and (most) continue to be friendly and courteous. Cheers to you :). Now this is not the only thing I've seen, this year alone and I'm sure there are worse stories about unruly patrons.

Does anyone know about the incident and can give further insight?

Oh my...that guy is definatly nuts....glad I missed that one!
I would love to however hear the scoop on the deal and hear of other wacky tales from the platform!

Entertain us with your strangest guest stories! *** This post was edited by kruggie on 5/16/2001. ***
Unfortunately, yes, we do have to deal with some interesting characters all summer long... But 999 out of 1000 guests are great, and that's who we really work for. ;)

I never worked at CP, but did work a food booth at the local Livonia (MI) Spree last year. You wouldn't believe the people I came across working only five hours at the counter.

The most notable was a lady who wanted to buy ten bottles of water (being a cheap $.50). There was a two bottle limit per person. After she finished yelling at us she decided to try to get around back and steal the water. We had to close the water stand down for half an hour while security tried to get this women to leave.

Sigh, I can only imagine what full time CP employees must go through.

Man that guy was crazy I thin it would be funny if somebody got arrested for yelling at ride ops I think that people like that shouldn't come to places that are ungreatful for what Ride ops do. If thier were no ride ops then we wouldn't be able to ride roller coasters. See all it take is one stupid person to ruin something for every one. Great Job ride ops and i will be at the point t/m. So i will make sure to say hi and thanks for being Ride ops.

Kudos,

I don't know. I can think of two parks that had a ride running with no ride op in the station. Of course that formed some major problems, but we won't get into that.

Seriously!

i think that anybody that has worked at the point has their share of horror stories, i remember one time on my day off i was bumming around one of the arcades and a couple of kids were shaking one of those games where you feed a token into it and hope it falls in front of a bulldozer which moves back and forth knocking down tokens, anyways the machine shut down because of the movement and when the arcade host came over the kids made a huge scene cause they thought they were getting ripped off and decided to get some of there money back, ends up they were escorted out of the park by security.
Some people will do anything for attention.

And by the way Magnum isn't sinking.
I have a couple of cute Geauga Lake stories from my days there. My first year I worked there old ferris wheel (remember that one). Two guys lit up joints on the ride thinking they wouldn't be caught. Security was right across the midway so I called a ride op over from the skyscraper to watch the ferris wheel while I let it run. I ran over and got a security guard who came with two others. When I finally stopped the wheel the guys were thanking me for the extra long ride...until security grabbed them and escorted them to an early exit.

Other story is a guy pulled a knife on me on the Big Dipper after I told him his kid was too small to ride. Wish I could say I was the big hero but I wasn't. While I froze in place my coworker came from nowhere and whacked the guy on the wrist with the height measuring stick. Knife goes flying under the waiting train. Two guests grabbed the guy until security came and showed the man to the park exit.
HOLY *&)(*&(%$***! (insert a large strand of curse words)!
That is scary, !
Good for you and ur friend who was working at the time
i feel very sorry for ride ops that must deal with that crap

Throw some of these people in to the hours and crap that ride ops have to go through and see how well THEY can handle it.

I remember my first year working at the point. I was a ride host on the Cedar Creek Mine Ride. It was a very hot Saturday afternoon in July, and I was working crowd control on the platform by the turnstile. This man and his son come up to the turnstile, and I measure the kid. Well he wasn't tall enough to ride. And I calmly and politely explain to the man that his son wasn't tall enough. The man started threatening me to let his son ride, (claiming that he knows Dick Kinzel (who was CEO at the time) cause they went to high school together). I wasn't getting anywhere. So, I called my team leader over and explained what was going on and then he measured the kid and the same outcome as before, not tall enough. So neither the dad or the kid got on the ride. Well the team leader got back from the TL Meeting and he said that the guy was doing it all of the rides with the 48" height requirement. The man also mentioned that Kinzel (who was CEO at the time) signed the paychecks.
