Typical Availability for the summer?

When I apply is mid May to late August good availability that they want? I'm just kind of curious what most people of of state normally work? Is there normally a good amount of housing still available in May?

Thanks, if you apply early do you generally have good chances on getting a job there? I currently work and have previous work experience.
