Interesting. I wonder if it is connected to the possible construction down at Kings Island

Hasn't CF applied for this trademark before?

Banshee = Mantis for any previous Banshee trademarks. Maybe this is for a new Halloween attraction?

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

The construction zone at KI has signs up that says there are screams and such so it could fit a Banshee theme.

My first thought, too, Pete. CP is getting a new haunted attraction this year...maybe it's going to be near Mantis. :)

Eh...not sure that makes too much sense.

A haunt is a place...not just a thing. "Trail of..."...."House of...", etc...

Seeing as how the KI sign also mentioned an "evil phenomenon", I'd say it's a sure bet to be the new attraction down south.

Others have said it. I'll say too. Kings Island.

Wouldn't that be odd if another Cedar Fair park called a ride "Banshee" after removing that name on a different ride?

Um...no. Have you been to more than one Cedar Fair park?

They re-use names all the time.

The Simpsons were also controversial in 1995.

I know they reuse names..but I'm just saying it would seem stupid if they reused one that was removed due to it having negative connotations

Which, from my perspective, is the stupid part.

They are re-using it for something. It's just a matter of where.

Perhaps it will be used on a winged coaster at KI.

I hope KI won't get a wing coaster. I don't want CP and KI to get too similar to each other, especially considering they are in the same state.

I always thought those types of ride-naming restrictions are getting MORE strict over time. I can't remember where or when, but I remember hearing someone (I think was Dick Kinzel) saying something about switching "Banshee" to "Mantis" saying something like, "...and that was back when the regulations weren't so strict" or something along those lines.

Can someone explain the controversial nature of "Banshee"? I had to look it up on wiki (I know it isn't the most reliable source) and all it said was "a "fairy woman" whose mournful wail heralds an imminent death". I don't see any controversy there?

How did it offend the Politically Correct Gods?

It's not controversial at all. That's why no one can explain it.

I heard a slightly more detailed story at one point in time, which included some trademark issues that were not settled with the name, but that's just hearsay. That said, it was more plausible that simply changing it out of some type of public outcry.
