Mean Streak brakes?

Did anyone else notice that they took out the brakes on the first hill of mean streak? Just when you started to go down< some brakes would engage and slow you down. The last 2 times I rode it, I waited for the brakes but did not feel any. I actually like Mean Streak better now, though, because the brakes kinda ruined the drop, and slowed down the whole ride.

Pics or it didn't happen.

What time of day did you ride it? It could be that you just rode a train after an empty train (is that how it works?) and the ride computer didn't trim you because the last ride was running too slowly.

It was normal opperation, no empty trains. And both times I rode it, there were no brakes. I rode it in the afternoon, and like I said i got in line and it was running normally. Other people on the train were saying the same thing, that there were no brakes.

Were the MCBR brakes still on as hard as they usually are?

So did you join Pointbuzz yesterday to spread a rumor? As much as I would love to believe you, well....not so much.

And how would he get pics?

In case you aren't lying, Mean Streak does, at times, give you a brake-free ride...so it could have been a coincidence. RideMan, I believe, has some knowledge about when/why this happens.

Hopefully Mean Streak stays this way. Having trims on the first drop was one thing I always hated.

What are the purposes of trim breaks, anyway?

I had a trimless-first-drop ride on MS myself last week, so I can vouch for this as well.

I was gladdened when we went over the crest and those brakes didn't kick in to ruin the drop. In my enthusiast mind, trimmed first drops are the ultimate coaster heresy.

I rode Mean Streak two weeks ago. I felt the trims, but they were nothing compared to years past.

I also got a trim less ride last Monday. It's a lot better without the brakes, as they pretty much ruin the first hill.

I am not certain...

But it seems that Mean Streak keeps track of the speed of each train, and adjusts the first drop braking accordingly. So if train n is slow, the braking will be reduced on train n+3 to compensate.

I have also noticed that sometimes if the train is running consistently with less than a full load (as often happens early in the day) the braking will be reduced.

Also, if they valley the train after the third hill, they'll back off on the brakes for a few days, at least... :)

I've rode MS twice since July 4th, and both rides have been without the trimmed first drop. Once was right after it re-opened from being down due to rain, but the other time was during normal, steady operation. Unfortunately the mid-course brakes still grab hard making the second half of the ride the same old snooze fest.
