There are now large signs at both ends of the causeway that mention it is the Richard Kinzel causeway.

Those signes must have gone up today because I don't remember seeing them yesterday going out to the park (or I just missed them). I really don't have any issue at all recognizIng Kinzel after all the years he gave to the park and company. He just overstayed by about 5 years.

That is a nice gesture for him. He deserves it.

It doesn't really matter for me that he overstayed, he still turned the park into a world class destination and transformed it from just Cedar Point to a chain with 11 parks. He deserves it.

And then he tried to sell the company for $11.50/unit to Apollo. Today, units closed at $29.07. I agree totally that Kinzel deserves the recognition, but at the same time, that one panic decision to try and sell the company almost changed the future forever and not in a good way.

One good side to Kinzel staying is it allowed Cedar Fair to snag Ouimet.

Yes they went up today, they were installing the supports when I left around 3 and when I returned at 4 they were placing the final sign out by First Street.

I don't agree with all his choices later in his career but he did build the company from a single park to a chain that is only rivaled by Disney and Six Flags! And considering how long he has been with the company it's not surprising in the least that they decided to dedicate something to him.

I forgot all about this. They dedicated the Causeway to him back at his retirement party. I saw what the sign will look like and I actually liked the idea (provided they still look the same as they did on paper back in September).

Kinzel Causeway actually has a nice ring to it.

They are at both ends of the causeway?

Well, the one on the way out makes total sense, and should have been put up long ago.

Are they putting a sign up in Aurora, Ohio that says "Dead End"?

I think we have the infamous Kinzel / Flafas feud to thank for that!

This is because it is the Richard Kinzel Causeway in memorial of his 20 years at the park.

The guy isn't dead. It's not a "memorial" anything.

Please, somebody take the ball on the new nickname for the causeway... I don't want to be juvenile.

A memorial is just something intended to commemorate a person or event, not necessarily someone who's dead.
