Well, in a way he's somewhat right. Kinzel may not be dead, but the causeway is remembering (memory) everything he did for the park and company.
A memorial is "something designed to preserve the memory of a person, event, etc., as a monument or a holiday." and "of or pertaining to the memory."
Granted in most cases yes, remembering someone means they're dead, an argument can be made that you are honoring someone by "remembering" what they did. Kinzel has retired, his work with the company all a memory now. Though in that case "Honorary" may be better to use haha.
What year was the causeway opened? Wasn't it a toll road when it first opened? I would have thought it would have been dedicated back then.
^The causeway opened June 1957, the year before I was born. My first recollection of going to the park was of my dad paying .50cent toll at the booths that now collects 12$ for parking.
1)Magnum 2) Blue streak 3) Millennium 4)Diamondback 5) Maverick 6)Dragster (Point lover since 66 age 8)
You're technically still paying a 50 cent toll. If you're dropping someone off, you give them $12 on your way in, and you'll get $11.50 back on your way out.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
^ Interesting, I have never dropped anyone off but when I get to the hotel they give me my 12$ back.

I guess hotel guests get the entire fee back. You can also get it back if you eat at one of the outside of the park restaurants, like Famous Dave's. If you look at the receipt they give you, I believe it does show/mention the 50 cent toll somewhere.

I have even seen them charge for it in the off season.
Probably the only toll road in America that has not raised its fee in 55 years. :)
Thanks, I remember it opening, just couldn't remember what year it was. I preferred going over in my uncle's boat. My grandson loves the causeway. He is only 2 but knows it means we are at CP.
Just wondering does anyone have pictures of the park maybe in a plane of what it looked like before the Causeway?
First rollback on Dragster July 23 2003 since then 15
I would like to see a aerial photo prior to the causeway too. Memories are nice but a photo would be fantastic. Somewhere I have a photo of my mom and grandmother on the CP beach probably during WWII. My aunt worked at the Hotel Breakers then and my uncle was the CP postmaster.
I apologize for bringing up an old thread.
This is the first thing I thought of when I saw the new Causeway signs on my way to the park for the Disaster Transport event this past Sunday. :)
Fitting that the Causeway was dedicated to him since it is the first indication that they are going to bleed your wallet dry as soon as you hit their property.
It might have been more appropiate to name Cedars dorm after him.

That's false. Sure, you'll pay $12 for parking but you can prepay that if you get tickets online. Then you can go all day ignoring stuff like Dippin' Dots, Ice Cream, Pop/Gatordate. If you eat a big breakfast on the way in you can probably go all day without eating much. I know that when I'm at Cedar Point I don't have the biggest appetite, I'd rather just ride and get some Dippin Dots in between. But I also know people that will eat a Turkey Leg and slice of pizza then go on Maverick.
So in other words, to avoid getting financially abused in the park, simply don't eat all day?
It's ridiculous, and very telling, that consumers' perceptions of what constitutes fairness has been eroded to the point that this kind of thinking isn't laughed off the board.
Not that I blame you, Vette. It's just the world you--and the rest of us--live in.

It's a capitalist, free market principle. They charge a certain price. If the masses don't like that, don't buy. Simple supply and demand. The problem is that people continue to buy. Actually it's not a problem, it's just simple dollars and cents. I agree that prices are outrageous sometimes, especially for food. But hey, the park is packed and the lines are full so the prices will not be lowered.
Someone implied that I was complaining about the prices. I wasn't. I know the prices are going to be high and I know that, "I gotta eat".
I just thought Cedars would be better due to Kinzel's high regard for infrastructure and the seasonal workforce. Not to mention that place is really old and it should have been retired years ago.
