Mean Streak being torn down?

A friend of mine was at Cedar Point on Sunday and they rode the mean streak. When they got off of the ride they were told by an employee that after this season the ride was being torn down to make room for new rides. Has anybody heard anything about that?

That rumor you heard is false. It is just closed for the SEASON. It will reopen in the spring.

I figured it wasnt true but I heard it from an adult not a kid so I figured they didnt make it up. They must have misunderstood what the employee said

As much as we'd all like to that to be true, it isn't.

If it was being torn down wouldn't they have auctioned off the last ride?

Yeah, wait a minute...

I was looking forward to riding it my next trip, as it was closed my last visit. I really hope it's not closed for the season...can anyone confirm?

I don't think anything has been confirmed. They did it last year to get a jump start on their off season work. It did wonders for the ride. If they put the same effort in again, I can't wait to ride it next season.

If only it were true. I would be down there quick with a bag of marshmallows to roast on while they burned it down.

Mean Streak is the dumbest ride Cedar Point ever built. I'd rather ride Jr. Gemini with Justin Bieber then ride Mean Streak.

If only this rumor was FACT.

I love Mean Streak so if they do get rid of it one day, hopefully it ends up somewhere else I can ride it. And they didn't shut it down early last year to get a jumpstart on that work. There was a fire on it during routine maintenance that caused its season ending injury. I hope they don't shut it down early. I'll be there in Oct and I'd love to ride it again this season.

Edit: I'm dumb, just read the story about the fire and it said they planned on shutting it down anyway. I guess I remember what I want to remember.

I would put money on Mean Streak never being relocated. If/when they decide to take it down, that will be the end for the ride.

It was closed last year because of the fire, not to refurbish the ride.

It is being closed early because they are going to be re-tracking it.

Me and a few others at the ride were told this, and it will hopefully run smoother for next season.

It caught on fire because they were refurbishing it. They had planned to close it early anyway. The fire just sped up the timeline.

The refurbishing caused the fire? I was not aware of that.
