Coasters stalling

I was just wondering if anyone on PB has ever seen a coaster at CP stall or valley with or without passengers. I know coasters have stopped on the lift hills, but that is not stalling.

Other than Top Thrill Dragster and Wicked Twister, no, I haven't seen it happen. I know they have happened, most recently Raptor on the last weekend of 2006.

Way back in the day, we had photos of Mean Streak rolled back, loaded, at the bottom of the hill over the entrance. Raptor rolled back between the cobra roll and mid-course the year before last. On my way out in the last year or two I saw Blue Streak not making it up to the turn around.

Happens more than they'd like I'm sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't I read on here somewhere
that MF has rolled back from the island hill?

I just think it would be kind of scary being in the coaster for that amount of time, then have to unlock the harnesses in midair over like a bucket crane or something to rescue the riders.

I believe every coaster at the park has stalled at least once. At least I can't think of one that I haven't heard of.

I saw wildcat stall out on Saturday night during 2006's closing weekend. The winds were high, and the ops were trying to re-open the ride. After keeping the first couple test cars weighted by riding, one got the bright idea to send an empty train. It almost stalled a couple times before finally stalling on, I think, the top of the third pullout.

Believe it or not, Blue Streak can, and has, valleyed before it reaches the lift. On really cold days and/or days where there is no graph-coat on the track (almost always no graph-coat being the cause), empty trains sometimes doesn't have the momentum/speed to get the train high enough up on the chain to catch, causing it to valley right before the lift.

On mine ride on days that it is cold, the train will sometimes stop at the top of the maintence brakes, right before the last helix. It has rolled back from there and gotten stuck in the small valley.

I was on a Gemini train that "stalled" on the transfer. The ride op closed the station brakes too early and considerably slowed the train on dispatch. There were only two or three of us on board, so we didn't have enough momentum to make the lift. They had to get a bunch of guys from maintenance to push the train to the lift.

Any coaster can valley. Its causes could be cold or even mechanical like a wheel not spinning or getting jammed.

What sucks is when you are sitting in the first train in the station (next to go) all through a break-down.

And then watch the train in front of you stall. But then you get to laugh at the people who GOT OFF that train and missed the roll-back.

I saw TTD stall at the top of the hill when I was there. At the same time a SRF boat was stuck on the lift hill.

I believe the only time Top Thrill Dragster has balanced was in 2005, right?

Nope, I know its gotten stuck 3 times, at least, but I believe only once with riders.

What makes a coaster stall? If gravity takes over after the first hill how can it just stop and roll back in a valley, and if that does happen what or how is the train brought back to the station?

I've seen trains valleyed on Gemini, Mine Ride and Millenium Force.

I watched as they pulled the MF train back to the station with cables.

Also, many years ago I was on the Gemini for the last ride of the night. The train only had about 8-10 riders on it, but they left the trim brake on hard. The train stalled at the top of the final helix, but must have been balanced as it didn't roll back. Took about 10 min. for a bunch of maintenance people to get to the ride and push the train into the station.
