I remember last year they had a countdown on their site counting down the days until they opened. I wonder if/when they'll start that again this year...

Just in case anyone was wondering, it's 5 months and 3 days until CP opens (assuming they open on May 10 and not May 17...)!!!

Probably after they announce more additions, if they have more. If not, I would say March?

Was is really that important to start a thread for this? I'm sure all of you kids have an internal clock for the opening of the park, and one for each individual event they have planned too.

11 years.

I wondered the same thing. I certainly hope they don't open as late as May 17! EEEEK! I was hoping for May 3. I believe I recall seeing that even Canada's Wonderland opened the 1st weekend in May 07. I have a feeling I will not get my wish. :)

They have already anounced that they are staying open an extra week in the fall (Nov 2nd closing date) so if they lob off a week in the spring I wont be too upset because:

I don't remember anything about them staying open later in the fall...If they did I think they'd be hurrying to get everything set for winter in time. There's some years where it has snowed by then. As much as I love CP, dodging sleet or snowflakes doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather have the extra week in the spring. Just my opinion.

...That's because it hasn't been announced. It's being assumed based on the running dates of Live E! shows for next season.

Halloween is on a Friday. Friday, October 31. It only makes sense that they'd be open through the weekend - which ends on November 2nd.

Cool! I didn't realize Halloween landed on a Friday in 08. I hope you are right Jeff. Now if they would only open in mid-April or at least 1st weekend in May. But then again, I am hoping to see a Christmas Season some day like they have at Hershey Park and a few others. :)

Reason for the park not opening in mid-April are that the weather can still be brutal, maintenance has a lot of work to do on the rides, and employees are still in college most likely taking their finals.

Christmas events just don't work well on a peninsula in Lake Erie. It's to cold!!

For anyone wondering, here is a link to the page that mentions the Live E shows running until Nov. 2. I for one am excited about (another) extra weekend on the Halloweekends calender.

http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/jobs/applying/auditions/dates.cfm

That also kind of answers the question about opening day, as it says the Red Garter show performance dates start on May 9, which is a Friday. I would assume that means a May 10 opening day.

April is no more brutal than October, though the lake is colder and it can be much cooler near the lake, even on warm days.

This past April, I was near the Sandusky Mall and think it was in the 70's F. All I remember is we were hot and had to turn on the AC in our car on the way to Huron. By the time we made it to Huron on the lakefront, we had to put on our coats, was pretty chilly (wind was coming from the NE that day). I was just amazed at how different it was. Actually it was kinda refreshing to me.

So if temperature and weather are the main factor, then perhaps April would not work, but then early May should not work either. I wonder if it has more to do with a lack of workers still in college more so than the weather. I don't know the answer.

The peninsula is no colder than anywhere else in Northern Ohio in November/December and probably no colder than Hershey, PA. In fact due to the warmer lake, it can even be a few degrees warmer. I would enjoy a Christmas Season, cold or not. That is just my humble opinion.

I'm just glad to see the park may stay open until Nov 2. :)

^ - I think it has a lot to do with a lack of workers.

Plus, the off-season is short enough as it is (from a maintenance POV). Remember, between closing day and opening day they remove every ride car from every ride, strip them down, replace parts, clean them, put them back together, check the ride structure (replacing parts as necessary), put the rides back together and then do testing to get qualification from the state. And all this needs to be done for all 68 rides by the time the ride ops come in to start training.

Technically that process does start before closing day so that maintenance can have more time to work on things. I've heard of some rides getting their winter overhauls, or at least part of their winter overhauls, as early as September.

And although I wouldn't want to see it done this way, it mayb be possible to do a "soft opening" with whatever rides they have completed by April or whatever. I believe some other parks do this. Again, the big issue would be staffing levels.
