New Wooden?

The next coster will probably going up in 2002, not 2001.

I wouldn't say they won't install any new rides at all. The only new whirl-n-hurl we've had in years (outside of Camp Snoopy) has been Chaos, so I think we're long overdue for some of those. I dunno... I guess we'll see.

Of course there will be more rides, not a coaster.

If CP gets a wooden coaster, I have to believe it will be a little like Roar or Wildcat (Hershey) with tight twisting drops and loads of airtime.

With the exception of the Beast, none of the coasters hearalded as the best are record breakers of any sort. Let's remenisce...

The ONLY wooden coaster that is one of the best and is above 150 feet is the Texas Giant... Well, we tried..

Well I was just at Hershey park on Saturday and a few things were different.They took ALL the brakes off of Wildcat so the ride is much more faster and INTENSE.I found it to be alot faster than LIGHTNING racer.After surveying that fact I thought that would be a great coaster to go along with the family of coasters at CP.They raised the height restriction on that coaster as well so my 5 year old daughter was no longer allowed to ride.They are also surveying the land next to RACER for a new coaster in 2001.Park officials speculated either a Floorless or a steel out and back(like MF but not as long or tall).

Their have never been trim brakes on the Wildcat, and might I add that their are'nt any on Lightning Racer either. Both coasters are super fast and super smooth, packing a nice punch and having all the elements you could ever want on a wooden coaster. If Cedar Point wants a new wooden coaster that kicks, maybe they should contact the boys from Great Coasters International. They're the ones responsible for these 2 beauties.

Cedar Point should build a L-shaped out & Back woodie like an L-shaped Shivering Timbers trying out the new Vekoma trains! The should try about 175'-180' with NINE layers of track for a smoother ride and go with a steel structure in the high strees point like the bottom of the first drop at a 67-70 degree angle! There is a rumor of a 170' tall 65 degree woodie planned for a park in Germany! Also if they go with Vekoma trains they could also buy 3 5 car 3-bench trains! I think another record they need to try and break is Shivering Timbers total(of all the hills combined) airtime which is esimated to be around 30 seconds or more! They should go with about 6000-6500 feet of track! If this is too big they shouls at least make it 135'-150' with the same drop angle again going for the steepness record and still going for the total airtime record and the same 3 trains as I just mentioned! And either way add a wicked helix at the end and 4 or 5 tunnels,one at the base of the first drip, one under support structure hiding an airitme filled speed bump, another like this hiding a trick-track element, 2 int e helix like Legend and an appoched tunnel to the lifthill! If CP can do this AND KEEP IT RUNNING THIS WAY PLEASE than this WILL be my new number one ride!!

I repeat - there are no successful wooden coasters over 150ft. There never have been.

Now - the easiest woodie record to nab would most likely be steepest drop. I think the Coney Cyclone still has that one.

Sustained airtime would be a ncie one to try for, though.

It really does matter that the coaster brakes a record. That is what really gives them the publicity they need. Why do you think that parks made up (false) records in the 70's and 80's? They needed the publicity. It really is all in the way the park presents itself.

Can you really tell that Millennium Force is 310 feet tall? The park could have said it was 280 or 290 and many people would have believed them. The ride wouldn't have seemed much slower if it was that height and the park would have saved a great deal of money. So why didn't they? Because the same rules apply as they do with those "rock stars". Millennium Force Is a great coaster, but in case it wasn't it still would have paid for itself and still would have been a big success. Like the rock stars that aren't really that good, it is because they put on a good show that makes them money. It's really all on how the park presents it's new ride.

I think we can all agree that a coaster doesn't have to break any records to be a good coaster.

My opinion on the whole thing is as follows:

I feel that the proposed Boardwalk should be a nice, quiet, strolling-along-the-beach type thing. Of course, a wooden coaster to accent that would be alright... but that's all I think it should be! An accent. Something to actually get the people ON the boardwalk. It should have an old-fashioned, not-too-rough, feel that gives the illusion of going fast when you're really not, and should look good. Just a quant little coaster, I think, is all they really need on the boardwalk.
