New Wooden?

The last time i looked, chaos wasn't a coaster!!!!

Cp bound... that's your opinion, but a good woodie to me is one with airtime and one that is not that bumpy. MS has very little airtime, while BS has a lot and is very smooth by comparison. If you want height, MS is your ride, but after the first couple of hills, it dies. But there are plenty that I like better than BS. CP needs a much better woodie and then I think we will all be on the same page.

I beg to differ about roughness....The last time I rode Blue Streak, it was in the back. My God it was the roughest ride I have ever had! I'm not complaining because I love rough rides and it was an adrenaline rush. The last time I rode Mean Streak in the back, though, it wasn't nearly as rough. I agree with you about the airtime though. There was non-stop airtime on BS.

Look, outside of us coaster fanatics, nobody cares for a roller coaster with a small height. A very tall wooden coaster would attract a whole lot more people than a 100 foot wooden. I enjoy the smaller CCI's too, they are just as good as the large woodys! Face it, not everyone wants to ride a 100 foot wooden roller coaster. But if Cedar Point does plan to built a fun, 100 foot tall, airtime filled woody - alot of people will miss out on a classic! And another thing - thousands and thousands of people will still come back to Cedar Point even if they don't add a roller coaster period! It is still the greatest park on earth!!!

I might disagree slightly, Bubba. You are right, a record breaker will draw them in, but so will anything new. If the new ride breaks records, people will expect a lot from the ride, and may be dissappointed. If the new ride "looks" average or non-impressive, but delivers a much better than expected ride, people are pleasantly surprised. Good word of mouth travels fast, and is reliable.

I see people getting off the Ghostrider (@ KBF) all the time, absolutely beaming about how it "blew them away" or "I can't believe how fast that was" even though top speed is around 55 mph. Let a good ride speak for itself, it may have better ridership 1 or 2 years after it openes, due to word of mouth or good reviews by folks like us.

I was at SixFlags@StLouis this past weekend and the Boss, their new wooden coaster was awesome IMO. I found it more fun than the Villian. It would be awesome if CP would get something similar to the Boss.

Hey, what if CP went for other records other than height? How about a 130 ft tall woodie with the steepest drop, most airtime, or the longest?

I don't want this to show up, but they could go for the woody inversion record. I don't want to see it, but they could if they wanted another record-breaker.

I can see them going for the length record. Instead of having one big lift, have maybe 2 or 3 medium (120') lifts, and juice them for everything they're worth. What is the length record anyway?

I think if CP builds a woody they should go for a combination of elements like one of my favorite coaster of all time the now defunct Twister (Mister Twister when I rode it in 1980) at the original Elitch Gardens in Denver CO. IMO this was the best coaster that John Allen designed. It had airtime and intense laterals. Not to mention the speed curve and one of the best head chopping tunnels of all time (You honestly did not think the train would fit in the tunnel the first time you rode it.) This ride felt like it was completely out of control! I know Knoebels built a new Twister but they changed many aspects of it. I think CP should build something like this except longer and taller (135 ft lift).

If i am not mistaken,doesnt The Beast already have two lift hills or am I confusing it with another.I saw a coaster on DISC and it was a woodie with two chain lifts.I dont think it can be built over the water though,I think thats what caused the Coney Island Cyclone to fall down.They could probably get away with building it partially over the water where it LOOKS like you are over it but not exactly.I cant see a Hyperwoodie though.The g-forces alone would probably hurt you and you would get baged around way too much.Dont expect a smoother ride.Something like Lightning racer or a Son of Beast would be cool if they could iron out the problems PKI is having with it.

Umm... the CICyclone is still running. In fact, it was retracked this year and is supposed to be in the best shape of the last decade.

And for the record, the Crystal Beach Cyclone didn't fall down either. It was re-done as an out and back and can be found at Great Escape in NY as the Comet...

Well at any rate, I still don't think CP wants a Son of Beast or any other hyper woodie. They're not stupid; they don't want something that will tear itself apart after 4 years. Woodies just weren't made to go that high or fast.

It seems like the rumor that continues to go around is that CP is going to build a replica of the CP Cyclone that was torn down in the 1950's (I think). Are there any photos of it out there? Was it suppose to be a great ride?

I have to give a "amen brother" to Evan. Viper is the smoothest true woodie I've been on. This will blow your mind....Viper use's the same trains as Mean Streak! It finally confirmed what I thought all along....Mean Steaks trains are not the problem like alot of people said. The whole design is bad. Once again ....thank you Mr. Summers for the screwing!

If by Viper you mean SFGAm's, then yes, to a point. Shivering Timbers uses essentially the same trains, too. [Albeit as an out and back] However, these rides don't have the concrete padding like MS does. They have *padded* upholstered trains which are actually comfortable.

I imagine that Viper also has a track that's occasionally lubed...

No comment on the LIGHTNING RACER at Hershey???
I have to admit to this point that is the best wooden Ive been on.Probably because its new but rides real smooth at 55mph.The waterfall and twisting track also do it justice.I love a good out and back but Im prefering the twister ones like racer and Hershey's Wildcat.I can remember when I thought Hercules at Dorney Park was the greatest thing but now the only thing great on that coaster is the first steep drop and the first turn,the rest of it slows down and barely makes it up any of the hills.

Lot's of speculation on whether or not CP will add a woodie for 2001, but, Jeff, correct me if I'm wrong, my understanding was that the only thing new happening in 2001 was going to be some cosmetic improvements to make the park look nicer with the next big ride happening in 2001.

And yes, I thought the Boss at SF-St. Louis was a lot of fun and I could see CP going a direction like that, not the tallest, not the fastest but good air time and an overall fun ride, one that will continue bringing riders back for years to come
