Rumors spread easily

I was in the car with my friends a couple days ago, and they said to me that a train on dragster fell off the tracks, and that 5 people died. And they all said they heard it from other people. And some other people I've talked to said the same thing. And a lot of times if I ever bring up that ride, people say its not safe because people have died on it.
Have any of you heard this rumor yet? I live in Upper Arlington by the way.

I have had a girl that I work with telling me they heard someone died on Dragster, to which I immediately informed them it wasnt true.

She persisted for a little while, maybe 2-3 minutes that she heard about it from a friend, thats why its always closed, etc.. and everytime I just kept reassuring her that it wasnt true.

She finally believed me. *whew* *** Edited 8/21/2004 7:18:22 PM UTC by Grovite18***

I remember someone telling me that they were going to tear down Top Thrill Dragster and never speak of it again.

That person was slapped.

I hate it when my friends don't listen to me about false rumors. "Yeah, a guy snapped his neck on TTD and an old lady died on there last year. I heard they were tearing it down, I saw it on the news." First of all, I'd know about it being a CP fanatic. Second of all, I'd know about it if it was on the news because I watch the news most everyday, or my parents do and they would have told me. I try to convince my friends of these ideas being wrong, but after awhile I just go along with it and nod my head in agreement.

Lol, if someone said something like that to me, I would say, "Hey, did you know somebody was killed at this same time and same place? Their body was found tommarow morning."

One of my parents friends was visiting from Michigan and INSISTED that on the news they said that Dragster got stuck half way up the side of the ride and he said they showed video of them getting out with a ladder......

All i said was "....wow...."

It can't get stuck half way up the accent. If it got stuck at the top like it did last year, employees just to the elevator to the top and push it down.

I wish all these people would GET THEIR FACTS STRAIGHT.

ANYONE who knows THE TRUTH, knows that a train did not fall off the track. It actually shot off the top of the tower, striking a low-flying aircraft. Yes, it was a tragedy but a heck of a thing to see at the same time.

Please get your facts straight.

Yuck Yuck!

Is that what the elevator is for? I thought it was for when the citronella candle runs out causing the mayflies to inhabit the park. ;)

As far as the rumors are concerned; those who have heard that someone died, car flipped over etc., just ask them if it makes sense that the ride is still operating.

I have a few things to say.
  1. If you believed that you are an IDIOT.
  2. The worst incident on TTD would be the cable breaking.
  3. GET YOUR INFO CORRECT NEXT TIME!

The worst incident on TTD HAS BEEN the cable breaking. There is always the possibility of worse, all it would take is catastrophic breakdown of the lapbar/safety belt or a hairline fracture in an axle to make a worse accident.

You can blame some of the rumors on the media. For instance: when the tragedy happened on S;RoS, Intamin was mentioned as the manufacturor. And than the article would mention some of the other coasters built by Intamin, and TTD being the most recognizable, some illiterate people only key on part of the article.

DEATH+COASTER+INTAMIN+TTD= There must have been a death on TTD at CP.

If the media would not mention TTD, or other coasters, some of the rumors might be eliminated.
