Hate to be blunt, but considering what it takes to *not* graduate from high school, probably not.

I wouldn't be such a jerk about people who don't graduate from high school on time. I get offended when people make comments. Have you ever thought that there were extenuating circumstances that are keeping this person from graduation. There very well may not be...but you don't know that.

And before I get a smart comeback. I was in an accident and broke a bone in my back Causing 4 months in a body cast that kept me from finishing 11th grade the first time. Think before you become an expert.

It's probably nothing personal, but given the chance to hire a high school graduate and a non-highschool graduate, who do you think they are going to pick? It's not that they are punishing you, but rather that they are rewarding the other canidate(s).

you *know* you're not graduating if you're in an accident and out of school for a long time.

you *find out* you're not graduating if you screw up and skip a few too many classes.

I ALMOST didn't graduate last year and didn't come to CP. I took a $640 course to pass! Had too much fun and not enough studying my senior year! I HATE ALGEBRA II! LoL.....

Wait 'til you hit University calculus.

Oh yes, you'll wish you were dead.

After getting no sleep tonight because I had to study for a calculus test, I totally agree with arearew. Ah, the fun to be had at college.

You think calc is fun, just wait for DiffEQs. More fun than should be legal. I felt sorry for the poor kids who took my exam a mere half hour after going through the DiffEQ wringer---which was scheduled at 8AM on a Monday, no less.

UGH, I hated Calc.....took me 3 tries to get through Calc2 and even then I only got through with a C....I'm so glad I haven't had to look at any of that crap in a couple years...

For my meteorology degree, I had 2 semesters of calc with analytic geometry, a semester of calc with vector analysis, and then the ultra fun DiffEQ course. There were two other calc courses in there as well, but I'm trying to block them out. Six semesters total and I hated every minute of it.

Unfortunately, my meteo courses were full of calculus and differential equations. And people wonder why I get so upset at these people on TV claiming the title of meteorologist. :)

Meteorology (or at least the way it is on tv): The only job where you can never be right and still have a job.

Can you imagine if the engineer building TTD miscalculated the strength of the steel needed to support the ride and the first time they launched it collapsed? He'd be out of a job in a heartbeat. But a meteorologist can "predict" 80 and sunny and it could be 30 and snowy and they get to keep their job.

My friends brother went to PSU for Meteorology. He still drives a truck for partytime ice in the Detroit area (or at least he did last I heard)....I think it was a combination of no job availability and not minding the ice delivery buisness

If you looked into it, you'd be surprised at the accuracy of a short term forecast. And we were graded on forecast accuracy - in a very detailed manner (not just high and low temperature). We were even graded on accuracy on where we put a "severe thunderstorm watch" and where severe thunderstorms actually occurred.

If a meteorologist predicted 80 and sunny and it was 30 and snowy, that person would not be a employed much longer.

My meteorology degree is also from Penn State. I've never worked as a meteorologist, though, because of the lack of (reasonable paying) jobs at the time I graduated. But I have the battle scars and the diploma.

I honestly think I am one of the only people that enjoy calc and analytic geometry. In a way I'm sad that my math is going to be finished after this semester.

Brian, should I warn my son NOT to take your DiffEq class? He's had two years of calc in HS and is starting at UM in the fall. Although he hasn't decided on a major yet, he's planning something with a mathematics background.

Some of my Engineering classes make DiffEq's feel like a high school course. College only gets harder the farther along you go (at least thats been my experience). DiffEq's are tough just like a lot of other college classes, but if you try hard you'll do well. I actually got a better grade in my Diff Eq class than all my other five calculus classes and its just because I studied more and worked a little bit harder. It is probably not a good idea to avoid a class because you're afraid it might be too hard ... you'll never get through college or even life with that kind of attitude.

I don't teach DiffEQ. The DiffEQ exam was 8-10 this past Monday. My exam (EECS 280) was 10:30-12:30 this past Monday. Several students looked a bit worn.

If Ian's taken the AP exam, his scores (and the exam he took) will determine which course is the right one to start off in.

The college of engineering recommends that students having earned a 4 or 5 on the AB exam or a 4 on the BC exam take Math 116 (skipping 115). Students who earn a 5 on the BC exam are advised to take 215, skipping 115/116. 115, 116, and 215 are Calc 1, 2, and 3. So, at most I'd recommend he take 215. If he's going to be a math major, he'll get DiffEQs in 317. Most other science/engineering majors get DiffEQs in 216.

This is probably the place to look:
