Power Outtage

Nick McCormick

I have a question, if the power ever went out, are their like, generatrators for the ride system, so they can get everyone back safely?

Nope. Hundreds of people died the day of the massive blackout. It was pretty horrible.

Please, every ride if designed to stop no matter where its out (except upside-down). Everything will eventually come back to its place.

I've been wondering, though, what Witches' Wheel does if it's in the upright position when power is lost.

I guess that is my cue..;) Witches' Wheel, will very very very slowly return to the ground. It would take about 10 minutes to return to the ground. Basically, power is needed to take it up, but not necessarily so to bring it back down. The cars will slowly flip down as the wheel itself slows down, and for a few minutes it would look like a ferris wheel, except with a few cars in the wrong direction on the sides. The next time you get to see one of these type of rides wherever it may be, CP or elsewhere, watch the boom just after the ride is fully erect. It starts to slighty and slowly bounce down. This is what it will do without power. Theoretically, the closer the wheel reaches the ground, the speedier (still not fast) the ride will return to the ground safely. Basically, if what your wondering is if it will just plummet back down. It won't. :)

(after reading following post) Exactly, Gomez

Millenium Force has a generator to power the lift,

SkyRide has generator and a hand crank

Space Spiral has a hand crank

Power Tower has enough compressed air in case of a power outage so it will let the car come down

All other coasters: Walk down from the lift. Brakes are designed to close when there is a loss of power

Other flat rides: not quite sure.

YAY! i ACTUALLY FINALLY got to go onto TTD!

Tell me if this could really happen. While i was in line for MF I heard a woman said that the year Magnum was built, or the year after, that it had gotten stuck on the brakes before the pretzal turn around. She said that the fire dept. had to rescue all of the riders. Can any experts confirm this and is this even possible?

This did happen, but the brakes had nothing to do with it, they weren't even there opening year. It simply rolled back in the pretzel turn, and that was where the train came to rest. The fire department did have to get the people out.

Humour is clearly lost on Mr. Short.

No, Mr. Short is clearly tired of answering (and looking at) the same questions. I will reiterate that a FAQs page would be nice.

Yeah, an FAQ's page would be nice. But it would take away from the fun of giving the newbies a hard time.

I was looking at the gallery photos of MF and I saw the res-q car on the lift. Now can they use that for power outtages or have they ever used it?

They used iti think 2001, it was in a forum... back in like july, someone who worked on MF had the whole story... I broke down during test rides with the CP crew in the morning, that was the only time that it's ever been used as a Evac. car...

Here's the question though, if you had a generator, would you use the power for the Evac car so you evacuate the people 300 feet off the ground? Or use it to drive the Elevator cables and send the ride though and unload at the brakes 12 feet off the ground? Simple.... eh?

Unless there is something preventing the lift from working other than a loss of power, the lift will be powered by the generator.

The generator would power the MF lift.

The only time the Maitenence car has been used to Evac the ride was during the great cable snap
