Source of Dragster's troubles revealed

The reason why they unplugged that is because it kept tripping the circuit. That is why it works for a little while sometimes and then is down suddenly.

That is a great pic. Who ever kicked out hte plug and didn't plug it back in needs to be shot in the arm with silly string.

When I first saw the pic loading I thought I was going to see a guy taking a leak on the motor.

Seriously, Greg, you know those switching power supplies don't work for AC motors...I mean, a laptop only needs 5v for the bus, 3v for the CPU, 12v for the disk drives, and 24v for the RS-232 ports...all DC. So conversion from any big AC source to puny little DC voltages is no problem. Big inductive loads, though, that's a problem.

But none of that matters if the plug won't fit into the outlet! And of course, the European plug adapter has to be imported...and will probably get held up in Customs...

Tom--

1 foot = 12 inches
1 mile = 5280 feet
1 hour = 3600 seconds

I'll leave you to do the math. :)

(Dave now tries to bring this full-circle...)

How else do you expect to plug into the diagnostics port on the PLC? :)

--Dave Althoff, Jr.
All but one of my computers have RS-232 ports.

I have RS-232 ports on all my computers, actually. Admittedly, all but one of them is DISABLED. (The one in the living room that serves as a PVR and MAME machine has an old trackball controller on the serial port for MAME)

No PLC's, though. Actually, during the tour of the hydraulics room on XCelerator, Josh and I noted ethernet ports all over the place. I asked about them, and the employee giving the tour said that yes, they're standard ethernet, and they can plug a laptop in (via a crossover cable, I'd presume, or the port is wired as an uplink) and do diagnostics that way.

Yea. Now that they have found this problem, thanks to you, I felt I should post what I caught them doing.(sorry for use of photo)

He's going after the ride with a CLAW HAMMER??

I thought CP's mechanics were smarter than that. Sledge hammers are far more effective; if you use a ball peen hammer, you can fool people into thinking you know what you're doing. :)

See what happens when you forget your DB-9 to DB-25 Adaptor, and null modem adaptor, gender benders, etc, etc, (USB, it’s Just a fad).
