I've heard that Commons Dorms are the way to go, but I've never worked there so don't listen to me ;-)

On point dorms

Pros:

-You're right on CP so it takes two seconds to get to where you need to be

-No waiting for the bus/spending money on gas

-Costs less

Cons:

-Facilities are quite old, and you can smell it and see it, Gold and Cedars don't have cable TV or AC (and believe me, AC is a pretty big must have)

-If you're a bar person then you have to get a ride to Louie's and find a way back

-Although the noise is bearable, it's nice to not hear the park 24/7.

Off point dorms:

Pros:

-Nicer facilities, newer and (generally) cleaner

-Cable, AC comes standard in some of the apts

-The "common" area is kinda nice to hang out at nighttime, I met a lotta new people there

-The bar is literally right across the street, so no DD or method of transportation needed

Cons:

-Not on point, so you have to take the bus or take your car. If you take the bus of course, you probably can't go straight home after work

-Costs a bit extra

I would go with Commons if you had a car, as it strikes me as the more "social" place to live.

There will be room Cody. You're comming pretty early. I'm not sure if Commons will even be open yet. If they're not they should be open like the next week. But you should have no problem getting a room in Commons.

There is parking for on point dorms. But the parking for Cedars is by the Blue Streak and that is if you can find a spot. If not then over by Space Spiral. Both of these places are not fun to walk to if you forgot somthing in your car and have to run back to get it. And when there are parking bans, you have to take your car off point. Plus if you have friends that live at Commons, you will have to drive there instead of just walking over to their room.

If you have a car, stay at Commons. The extra $15 is well worth it!!

Since everyone is talking about the bars, does anyone know if Louies is gonna be open this summer. I know it's just a rumor, but supposedly they were gonna close.

I have a question about roomates. I guess this thread is as good as any.

My process in date is April 29th, and I have a couple freinds that arrive at the end of May. Can I reserve spots in a dorm for them? From this site I was under the impression that I could, but in ther etraining there is a conterdiction of that. Is it a set rule that you can't reserve rooms for roomates, or just applicable when there aren't enough rooms to do so?

Thank you,

-Marc

In previous years (assuming its still true now) you can reserve rooms as space permits. Once they run out of rooms, they will begin using spaces that are reserved. It should be noted that housing can be "full" one week and then have tons of vacancies the next week as they open more buildings/floors/wings. If you are unable to reserve a space initially, you can probably move to another room as more space becomes available.

i love off point housing b/c i love dorm life and commons is quite the "happening" area, lol @ myself.......to me the best thing about it is the fact that the bar is basically across the street like my homey said above.....i am a dorm girl all the way b/c the apartments suck...16 people to 1 line with someone ALWAYS being stingy on the internet does NOT work.....and bayside is just rundown and grimey to me.....
