Tower really starting to take shape

For those who haven't checked the web cam lately, the tower is now starting to take shape, other than going vertical that is. A horizontal and supporting 45deg. support is now sticking out of what I call the "downside leg" of the tower, or the one closest to the island. This new support will probably be the first to support the high end of the pullout for that tower, so the start/end of the pullout on that side will be in the 150-200'. It's mate on the other main support might be there, but one of the bugs is covering up that location.

Something to ponder: MF's first hill pullout starts roughly in the same height range.

That reminds me, I can't wait till I get in the backseat of this beast. From the images, it's already tall then Xcelerator's tophat.

The only probem is those darned bugs.... there annoying. They make me want to go up there with a bottle of windex and a roll of paper tower.

Good point about MF's pullout Scott, which make me start thinking that this might night quite reach the 400' mark. Maybe its ONLY going to be high enough to be the worlds tallest continuous circuit coaster but not as tall as some are hoping for. Some people will never be satisfied.

If this topped Steel Dragon in height it will still be impressive! :-)

I am really starting to wonder how the supports will look. I think the kind for overbanks would work, but they may want to stick with what Xcelerator has.

It looks like it might now be safe to assume that the tophat implementation on CP's new coaster will be slightly different than that of Xcelerator's. The new horizontal support backs the rumor that No. 16's tophat will only turn 90 degrees instead of 180. The construction has definitely taken an interesting turn...:)

i think its safe to say it will be a 180 degree tophat....i made this assumption by studying the pictures of the tower and how the supports from the side are starting to pop out. I think the tophat will go up one side of the tower, Twist....come down the other side of the tower how the things for the supports stick out in This picture. There are extentions for support poles on 2 poles in the front and none on the back.

I think that the track will go up on one side, Twist and come back down into watever is going to happen after it. This is my theory. Sounds like a possiblity.

EDIT: Also the Alignment of the foorters align with the 2 towers perfectly....I just hope its not only a tophat and an overbank or 2.

Interesting... there are now horizontal and supporting 45-degree supports on both the "up" and "down" side. Also, is that another, longer horizontal support sticking out from the "down" side just a little lower than the 45-degree support? It looks like it... and if it is, this will be a HUGE pullout (which I guess is given, but this may give us a better idea).

I completely agree with CP Jigga in terms of the tophat turning a full 180 degrees and how it will be positioned on the tower. I made the same observation a couple of days ago under the "unusual design" topic. Good observation!

I am not so sure that will be the tophat area, I've been looking and comparing a lot of pictures, and that support tower looks just like the 1st overbanked turn tower on Millennium Force =/

Exactly. Instead of using two gigantic Xcelerator-type A-frame top hat supports, they're using one gigantic "overbank" type support.

The thing I'm wondering is if the top of the top hat will be supported or not. The swaying would definitely give it some wow-factor, but from what I've heard at KBF it could also kill ridership.

good point, I guess we're just gonna have to wait and see what CP decides to do.... im sure itll be the right choice though, they seem to have done everything right THUS far ;)

Does anyone have photos of the 45 degree supports? I seem to be at work or school whenever it is bright in ohio, and I would love to see how it is looking.

It seems weird to me to have such a powerful pullup balaced over the center of one (albiet huge) pipe--the same goes for the pull out.. The only coaster I can think of that does this is steel phantom (or it's child) when it crosses through thunderbolt. It does seem like the footers indicate that is what will happen. I just wonder--- why?

First of all, at this point it isnt really up to CP what the ride does, its already been designed. Secondly, if you dont trust me at least trust CP Jigga: the supports they are putting up are for the top hat.

I find it hard to believe that the single tower will hold the entire top-hat... I think there will be a second tower poping up soon near the PWE que.

i doubt it....i think it'll be just one tower....thats why its so big. I think it can hold a Full tophat.

I *do* think it'll be a tophat like most others.

However, from the description of the supports (which I haven't seen due to nighttime) they seem highly unusual-- making me think there is something unusual going on around the base of the tophat. Maybe that something unusual is simply the need for the supports to be built around launch mechanism housing (anyone see the foundation of a building anywhere?!). Maybe 400 foot tall rides get built differently.

I just think it is something to point out--- it interests me :)

There is more stability in building one tower than buidling two. There is less play involved in utilizing one tower, and with the high winds and excessive height that this thing will have, I don't think they have any stress fractures like with what happened with WT.

Also, think of more than one element being used on the tower...
