The lagoon is dammed and being pumped, footers eve

Maybe I'm getting way out there on this one.....Say the launch area is indeed the Troika/Chaos area and it does launch you towards the area that has been fenced in for the tophat area. Instead of cresting the tophat and comming back down the opposite direction you just came from (as in Xcellerator), what if you just kept going down the left side of the tower in the direction towards the island. Then, instead of just crossing the lagoon overhead, a tunnel would be constructed that would actually travel underneath the lagoon and exit out once you've reached the island (talk about a head chopper). That might explain partially why they are draining this portion of the lagoon and it would also rid the need to re-route the PWE for any supports they may need for the new ride. Hasn't this been done before at another park where the coaster actually enters a tunnel and then goes under the water and out the other side? Can anyone confirm or deny this. Just a thought....

That is just WAY too out there. They are draining the lagoon just like they did for Mantis. To allow for footers to be poured.

The radius of the pullout for this ride just simply would be too large for that. It has been discussed that it could go left and pullout right under one of MF's supports on its 72 foot banked turn. This would be feasible, and would work if the pull out would be long enough. However, the fact that there appears to be parallel footers towards that area suggests that it will be the same element seen on Xcelerator...

I wasn't into CP as much as i am now when MF was built so i dont know but when they built MF did they do much work before the season ended. Or work like they are doing here. If I remember they started most of the work later than for this. Also, is the park open on weekdays anymore? I dont assume so but im to lazy to check.

Exactly, CP_bound. If Area 51 is the location of the top hat (which looks almost definite), the element will be the same as Xcelerators, where you leave the top hat in the opposite direction of how you entered. If you look at the locations of the footers this is obvious.

Also, no the park is not open for weekdays for the rest of the season (excluding Halloweekends Friday nights).

I don't believe construction for MF started this early, but it did start in mid to late September. They shut down the train for HalloWeekends in order to have construction proceed.

We did have some diary entries and photos for the ride to keep us at bay. This is why a late announcement could be bad. Once the gates close, there will be no more updates until the park chooses to announce it.

I suspect that construction has started this soon not necessarily because Cedar Point wants to, but more like Intamin is going to have their resources spread very thin this off-season and that this job is their top priority so they are getting it done as quickly as possible.

If I was one of the guys that erect these rides, being up 400 feet in the air in already freezing temperatures on the ground doesn't sound too appealing. But what a rush!

Yeah, but with more wind comes much worse wind chill. Ear muffs or no ear muffs.

It's just as cold 300 feet up as it is 400.

It was pretty cold when they put the top of MF's hill together. I assume they are starting early to get footers poured and cured. Although concrete heats up while curing, it would take much longer to cure in cold weather than in warmer weather.

Didn't MF start construction aroung the time of the announcement in July?

I am not expecting an announcement untill much later this winter, but it would be nice to hear a few things about it from CP. All I really want is the layout.

Site preparation took place before the season with the moving of the train's tracks, but construction didn't start until September.

MiA Jon, visit www.virtualmidway.com for some great pitures of the site of the future coaster, track, and two lonely rides sitting in the parking lot (Chaos and Troika Troika Troika)

I am sure they are pouring footers this early is so the curing process can take place during the season, so once its over, vertical construction can begin. I believe they will announce the new coaster before the end of the season, and maybe even before the end of the month.

Walt, you did a great job capturing the midway before the changes. This is great that someone has captured another historical change in the park. Luckily there both Troika and Chaos aren't going in the defunct rides section of Walt's site.
