Would you do 24 hours at CP?

Go away you annoying little pest.

How could the park extend its operating time. Don't you know; no one will come, it will be too cold, there is not enough staff, the park would never make any money off of being open longer and maintenance wouldn't know what to do with themselves. Did I miss anything?

Yes. Among other things:

1) A 50 degree day in March is very different than a 70 degree evening

2) If done in the summer, school is out

3) If done with Halloweekends, the haunts are a draw that isn't there in Mar or Ap

4) Being attached to established operating days is different from trying to get people out in March

5) Since the park is already operating, the set-up expenses have already been covered. Also, winter maintenance wouldn't be scheduled until winter

I get your attempt at sarcasm. It just illustrates how wrong your original arguement is

MF had a seven hour wait ...

Really? Nobody's gonna call this person out on a clearly BS post??

I think we all know that that is crap. The only way a 7 hour wait for Millenium is possible is if it broke down and you waited for them to fix it.

Also Pointguru, you are calling this topic crazy and maybe even thinking that it is stupid, but looking back at your threads they seem to be just about the same if not worse.

Except I never said open the park on 50 degree days. Only gorgeous spring days.

What school is in session on weekends? Which is why I said open on weekends like Halloweekends.

3) If done with Halloweekends, the haunts are a draw that isn't there in Mar or Ap

I guess no one is drawn to the park on Saturdays in July either.

4) Being attached to established operating days is different from trying to get people out in March

How? Attracting people to the park at 3 AM when most of the world is sleeping is harder than getting people to come with perfect weather. I'm not so sure about that.

5) Since the park is already operating, the set-up expenses have already been covered. Also, winter maintenance wouldn't be scheduled until winter

The operating expenses are the same, just earlier in the year. If you actually read what I post and not what other people who have no imaginations want to make you believe what I said, you will see the difference. Since I suggested opening early on weekends with limited operation, maintenance could simply focus on the attractions that would open early in the winter months. Attractions like water rides or Frontier Town attractions which could open later could still be worked on during weekdays in the spring.

I actually like the idea of a 24 hour park. It would just be much harder to implement than opening earlier in the spring. How would the park know when a guest has been in the park over 24 hours? It would have to be some sort of wristband or pass system which would have there own flaws. It could be done; but, then again how much revenue could the park generate in the early AM hours?

Will the software upgrade include an "ignore" feature?

If not, I will gladly pay for its development. Let me know where to send the check.

Until then I will be spending much less time here.

What would I do 24 hours at CP? Likely the same that I do now - wait in long lines like cattle. Moooooovit, and get your butts off the railings.

Of course, now that I "can come and go like I own the place" (I have an e-mail from Cedar Fair to prove it - now that I purchased my season pass), what's the advantage in an allnighter? I get enough bugs in my face as it is during the day, and I think it's better that maintenance gets a chance to clean up and repair those taped off seats on the rides once and a while.

I have a question though...

Why is it the sample seats at the start of the ride queues never have that caution tape on them? Don't they break too?

I think you meant to post this in the feedback and help section. I personally like hearing other people's opinions.

It's not a BS post.. It was Halloweekends last year on a Saturday. If you don't believe me, then that's your opinion. But don't call me a liar when I know for a fact how long the wait for that ride was on that day. I'm not saying it's like that every day during normal operating season or even Halloweekends, but that's how it was when I went. And maybe no one is "calling me out" because they experienced a wait like that.

"we are the music makers & we are the dreamers of dreams."

A 7 hour wait for MF would fill its entire queue 2 times over and then some.v I wasn't there that day but I can say with 99% certainty that the wait wasn't 7 hours.

A 24 hour opening would be interesting, though I know there's no way I'd be able to stay up the whole time riding. I'm also not sure what effect it would have on the various rides running 24 hours without their overnight maintenance/inspections. I believe Millennium Force has a button somewhere a little ways down the first drop that has to be pressed by a maintenance worker every 24 hours to signify that it has been inspected or it locks the ride out. I can't remember where I heard that though.

Presumably they could have rolling down times for rides if they needed to be inspected.

And exactly how do the logistics of this work out? An entire staff to run the park is constantly on-call in case the weather cooperates?

You're mental.

On a perfect sunny weekend where the temps are in the 80s, I could do 24 hours!

I believe the word you were trying to use is intellectual.

All they have to do is something similar to professional sports and their staff when the weather doesn't cooperate for them. If a game is rained out they send the staff home. They still manage to serve 40,000 plus fans which is well more than the average crowd at the park for a day. It really is not that hard. Volunteer fire departments do it all the time. It can easily be done. It is just a matter of the park management wanting to work hard enough, give up their time off, and be organized enough to do it effectively. Also, as I mentioned before; it would be hugely profitable, but would it be profitable enough to be worth their time and effort when the park is making record profits now by just gouging the customers.

Of course, major sports stadiums are in major population centers, not 2 hours' drive away.

You're clearly not thinking this through all the way.

Back in the good old days of Tony and Tyler's blog, they did a behind the rides on Millenium and that is where it was posted. There have also been numerous Discovery channel and National Geographic segments on it.

Pete, oh yea? Tell that to the 11 houses that line Cedar Point Road east of the parking lot and I guarantee you they will call in noise complaints...I have a summer house about a quarte mile further down the road and even there you can hear the coasters, especially at night when the rest of the world is silent there...

The homes next to the parking lot are not on Cedar Point Road, they are on a private drive. If you are close enough to the park to actually hear it, I bet all you have to do is close any open windows and turn your A/C on and nothing from the park will keep you awake.

And actually, if they keep the park open 24 hrs., the boaters in the marina would be much more of a problem with noise complaints then any of the residents on Cedar Point Road I'd bet. And the boaters pay a lot of money to the park each summer, so I would guess their concerns would carry more weight than the residents on the road.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
