Worth it to work there?

I just don't know how to get my foot in that door

By working there as a seasonal. :) And even then, there's a lot of people who want to work full-time, and not a lot of full-time work.

Dang. I wanna do that. Well do you think Disney has more job openings?

Noone screws you over for your bonus. If the bonus thing was the big deal that everyone thinks it is, the bonus program would not exist. If this were an actual problem, there would be an uproar. As it stands, you only hear about this crap once in a while from folks who got fired while the other thousand employees are hush hush because they got their bonuses, as promised. It's sad that this is such a widely propagated rumor.

I don't buy into that story completely, I'm sure there's more to it. You lost any credibility when you said that McManus is a nazi... if you managed to piss him off in some form, you deserved what you got, but please lay off the silly "uh, management f'ed me" tripe. It's irresponisble and nauseating.

How does Cedar Point choose ride ops for the roller coasters, or any other large ride? Do they just pick randomly, ask for volunteers, or those who have been working the longest at Cedar Point?
During your interview, I believe you are asked whether you want a fast-paced ride or a slow-paced ride and whether or not you are afraid of heights. Usually a fast-paced ride and not being afraid of heights will get you a roller coaster, or at least another thrill ride. But, unless you are a returning employee, your ride for your first year is pretty much randomly picked.

I don't want to get off topic, but I was wondering, does anyone know if the Cedar Point people recruit employees from the University of Kentucky, or do they not go that far away?
When I worked at Cedar Point, my one roomate was from Italy. Does that tell you anything? Hell, I had friends from Tennessee, Florida, and Hawaii. Distance is not a barrier for employment at Cedar Point...just as long as you can get there.
I can't wait till I turn 18 so I can work at the Point. I just hope i get to work a great roller coaster like magnum or raptor with fun peole. But my only question is what happens behind the scenes when your not saying speils or checking lapbars and so on. What is your most unusual day.
You meet so many people and make so many friends. that there is always someone else to hang out with on your days off. The Sandusky Mall is close by, go to the movies, and I even went to a golf course close by a couple of times. There's not a whole heck of alot to do, but you can keep busy. You'll make so many new friends, you'll always be doing something.
I have a question for Point employee, I am 15 years old living near the middle of Michigan, I have been looking into getting into a job at the point, Is there anyone that I could contact about keeping in touch with me and talking to me until I am the correct age to work at the park as a ride-op. I was also wondering if the employee's get days off where they can enjoy the park as the rest of the visitors do. and if they do get days off do they get into the park for free, and discounts for things like gokarts and other good things, I really am wishing to work at the Point, and looking into getting into something like that.. *** Edited 7/25/2004 5:14:22 AM UTC by Kyle Callahan***
All the perks that go along with working at Cedar Point are listed on their website http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/jobs/index.cfm

Is there anyone that I could contact about keeping in touch with me

--As for that, I highly doubt it.

For first time ride ops do they let you pick the ride you are on if you apply very early. I remember reading something like that here. I'm 15 also and I even have the employment brochure and I did lots of research and I still have three more years high school to go. I plan to work as a ride op or park services and go to school for business or public relations and work there long enough and hope to become a supervisor and work my way up the ladder. It's a long shot but you need to look at the glass half full!

I applied the night the online application became available and I didn't get to actually *pick* the ride I wanted. I was asked if I had any preferences and that they would try to give me what I wanted. You might get lucky and get the ride you wanted the most :)

Uh, about this free internet access...is it free cable internet access?

Go Cubs! White Sox Suck!

It's decent but it isn't as fast as a cable.
Oh, I see...well I hope for an upgrade by the time I get to work there! lol

cedar point is alright to work at, the transportation provided, NEEDS SOME SERIOUS HELP!!! i work in the state of indiana as a hazmat tech and an Emergency Medical first responder, and we respond to bus accidents very often, and alot of the injuries come from over crowding. cedar point will have or already has had, a major lawsuit due to the over crowding on "parking ban" days. second: cedar point doesnt care much about their employees that have a serious medical condition that could affect their lives. i had surgery to remove a tumor several weeks before coming to cedar point, sadly, i developed complications from the surgery, and i needed a few days off, and i thought for sure my supervisor was gonna rip my head off and spit it out down the midway. third: i wasnt far from completing my contract with cedar point, and it just happened that one of the supervisors decided that he saw me do something that was so completely untrue, i was flabbergasted that i was even accused of doing something so dangerous, SO STUPID, that any average person would know that it was wrong, plus to boot, the supervisor stated where he was standing when he saw this incident, was blocked by a big tree, a wall, a curtian, and several people standing in the view. but when confronted of park ops, of course, like any other big business, they stand behind their staff, and *BOOT* out the door goes the employee. after pulling some ears from a few supervisor friends, i found out, that one of the two reasons i was let go was due to my bonus being too large and they didnt want to pay it out at the end of the season. now i dont believe that is a lie because i heard it from more than just one person. *shrugs* i was told when i first got there, some love it, some hate it. sadly i didnt have such a good experience as an employee, but i loved meeting great people, loved the rides, and waking up every morning and being next to the lake. my only advice: its not a matter of how well u do, its a matter of who u know will depend on if u keep ur job or not. i wish cedar point would overhaul its management. ill step off my soap box. i hope this helps. James

I guess it depends on your major. If you want to eventually work for a radio station stay at home but if its not an intern then go to CP. I had a great time this last summer and plan to return but again experiences vary.
