Working at Cedar Point in 2005

My uncle lives up in Sandusky near The Great Wolf Lodge, he showed me a section of the paper that had all the jobs and age requirements at Cedar Point. He knew I loved CP and offered me to stay with him at his house if I wanted to work at Cedar Point. Well I'll be 16 next year, and I looked at the the paper and the CP website, there aren't that many jobs for a 16 year old, the only one I would enjoy was Ride Photo Operator.

Here's my question...

Is there any other job for a 16 year old that involves the roller coasters and thrill rides?

I have a 16 year old too, who's interested in working there, but we'd have too long of a commute. I was wondering if there are any really cheap apartments in Sandusky to rent for the summer.

What you see is what you get. Being 16, working at a photo booth is probably about as close as you'll get to the coasters, unless you're in the park as a guest.

Yeah, I'll probably just do that. Then when I turn 18 I'll try to become a ride operator.
Yep, the only thing cool of being sweet 16 is getting your Drivers license.
Amen!
If you are 18, or 17 and graduated from High School you can live in the CP Employee Dorms

I doubt ANY apartment landlord would rent an apartment out to a 16 year old. The only way that a 16 year old can work at the park is if they commute. Good luck in the job search!

Not if the parent rents the apartment for them.

I would rent the apartment for the summer and live there too. I wouldn't let my kid live there alone! I wouldn't have to pay for hotels and I could get a job at CP too.

How much do you get per hour at CP?
it depends on what job you have..heres right off the website..

  • $6.25 per hour base rate for most positions
  • $6.50 per hour base rate for select jobs
  • $5.65 per hour base rate for minors under 16
  • Some jobs such as wait staff include tips
  • Higher pay for leadership positions!
I'm still deciding whether or not im going to go back next year. I did, however, have a lot of fun pushing buttons and seeing how much i could get away with this year...ended my season with TWO hard cards..(for those who dont know, a hard card is what they use to document everything you have done wrong, and ALOT can fit on one hard card, LMFAO) If i go back, i wont be in rides, phwew, no way in hell. Firefighter/EMT is the only Job i will take next yuear. But if me and my g/f get married before then, i wont be back...and yes, we met at CP. Well, i'll keep ya posted:)

How close do you live to Geauga Lake? We have 16 yr old ops this season however as far as I know there still hasnt been a decision made if they will hire new 16 yr old ops or just grandfather for 2005.

There are really no great jobs until you are 18, but that is probably because you can stay at the dorms. One good thing is that you can go into the park any time you want- so if you really love the park then photo operator is the gig you want.

Hey! i will be coming back for my last summer at CP in 2005... very sad, but i need to go to school in the summer after next year so i can get graduate and get my career going :) that will be fun, but i will definitely miss cp when im done...lol i dont want it to be over, i love everyone there and the times ive had there will never compare to my times at home.

For those of us who worked there in '04, do we have to re-apply in december when applications come out or do they send us re-hire information in the mail???

Both...we'll receive re-hire information in the mail which we send back with our availability/time off requests and ride preferences, but are still instructed to re-apply online like everyone else. The system will automatically recognize you as a returning employee so it's really easy.

Being a photo op still seems like it would be an awesome job regardless Huggy Bear. Maybe the next best thing to operating the coaster?

Magnum still rocks.

I know people that worked in ride photo! I know both of the sups actually. Photo seems like a fun job especially when you're at a ride like Dragster when you're in the middle of all the action. As to GL and the ride hosts I'm guessing that they had to deal with who was hired by Six Flags and they won't be hiring people under 18 to work rides but I may be totally wrong.
