Wondering about fate of Corkscrew, cars blank

Went to CP, went on Corkscrew, and much to my chagrin, the cars were, well, blank! Most of the Corkscrew paint had been stripped off, leaving only the red siding and a bit of the design. Are the cars getting repainted, exchanged (for the new Arrow trains) or, dare I say, sold?

I wouldn't criticize a move by Cedar Point to remove the Corkscrew. That ride has served its purpose and brought in it's revenue. Anyways, if Cedar Point took that down then they'd be without a sitdown looper completely, forcing them to build a standard sit-down looping coaster like I want to see so very badly... Just my opinion.

(i know it's late, but only 28 hours till i'm on my way to Cedar Point and my first ride on MF, I CAN'T SLEEP!!!)

I'm guessing that maybe they'll stop running it, but not remove it, just because it makes up such an important part of the midway, and you can't really put anything else there.

I certainly don't think they would just stop running it. If it is an important part of the midway then they would not only leave it there, they would keep it running as well. The sad thing about Corkscrew is that it's a tired old ride but it is not exactly a legend. Blue Streak and Mine Ride have a special character so tearing one of those down IMHO would be a sin -- kind of like it was a sin to tear down Pirate Ride. But the corkscrew, though nice to look at at night, is just an old coaster with a short and not very exciting ride time that bangs your head around. Cedar Point's midway has changed so much and so many times over the years that removing the corkscrew would not be an earth shattering move. If it could make way for even a non-ride attraction that is new, fresh and different, i say go for it.

It might have some sort of meaning because it was built during the bicentennial with the red white and blue color scheme.

Somebody posted once a couple months ago that CP could run the trains backwards. And if I remember correctly, Jeff seemed pretty supportive of that. I don't know about the rest of you, but that could save Corkscrew for a couple more years, and it would be interesting to ride it backwards, I'd gladly do it!

I remember more now, this person thought it could be done for Corkscrew's 25 year anniversary-in 2001.

If my memory serves me correctly Jeff said putting the trains on Corkscrew backwards would actually hurt people.

Corkscrew is one of CP's most visually appealing ride and provides a fun experience to those who don't like riding coasters but who like to sit under the loops and watch the trains rumble by. I used to love doing that in my pre-coaster loving younger days. How many other coasters provide such an experience for spectators and riders alike? I still like riding corkscrew and really like flying upside down over the midway looking at the people walking underneath. The cars could just be getting ready for a refurbishment. If they were removing the ride for scrap or for sale, wouldn't they just go ahead and remove the corkscrew logos after the ride is shut down, why even remove the logos at all? Let the new owner deal with repainting and if they are scrapping it, then why take the trouble?

This is a world of change. And who says that CP couldn't build a multi looper that happened to have that same corkscrew thrown in it.

The problem with running it backwards.. in my mind... is the Joker's Revenge. A Vekoma looper much like the 'screw, JR is TERRIBLE backwards.

Hey, maybe CP will get it to work, and that'd be really cool, but do they necessarily need to strip the trains?

The actual corkscrew on the ride is still a very attractive part of the midway, but I am in favor of removing it and replacing it with a mega-looper. Let's face it, even on a crowded day, this ride has no wait. On an average day, it's a walk-on with empty cars. By today's standards (not 1976's) it is a poor ride. Like I have always said, nothing lasts forever and I have a hard time believing CP will keep some coasters forever. It's a very rough ride too.

I think they should tear down Corkscrew and replace it with a boomerang. It would be perfect. What other coaster type ride could they put there. It would work because it could still go over the midway.

Dear God... I am in awe at this thread. Look really hard at the trains. They refurbished the trains and didn't reapply the decals. That's all. This has to be without question the most insane speculation I've ever seen.

"I know, let's start tearing it down by removing the decals, then we won't have to do it later."

Sorry, just feeling a little sarcastic because sometimes people don't actually read what they're saying.

7th most popular ride? I really have to question that even if that is what CP states. It may give a lot of rides because of a short duration, but based on actual people in line???????

Good ride or not, you don't remove a ride that keeps more people off the midway than Mantis!

But a new looper in it's place would keep more people off the Midway than Corkscrew.

Am I the only one who likes the Corkscrew? It may be short but the air time on that ride is outstanding (on the little hill right before the loop).
