Welcome to Pointbuzz djmcheme, though I sure hope you're being sarcastic. I think you should allow some goofing off, keeping safety in mind, but if you are going to be "Mr. or Mrs. Fiesty", you're going to have your crew turn on you, and try to get you fired. I hope you have a great Summer. I sure wish I was going to be there this year.

I believe it's Monster and Witches Wheel :P. But that's where i'm gonna be and where i was for a good portion of last season. Trust me Witches wheel can be pissy at times :) But we will make sure we take care of her this year.

I am fair and balanced but be warned that I am a strict disciplinarian. I will not hesitate to make an example out of anyone goofing off. If you play by Cedar Point rules then we will have no problems. I am strictly by the book and I plan on being promoted.

Really, dude, take a breath. Campfreak makes a good point. You shouldn't come in all hard-charging like that. Your crew isn't a drill squad. Maybe that's not how you are in person, since I don't think I know you, but I'd really re-consider that mindset just a little. Your crew will resent you if you try to go all dictator on them, and even if they don't try to screw you over, they will at least lose a lot of respect for you (which can lead to MORE goofing off, believe it or not). If nothing else, newbies do look in on here, and I know what my reaction would be if I read that from their perspective.
What really bothers me is that you seem to base this attitude on the fact that you want to get promoted. Terrible way to look at things. Management and supervision do read this board from time to time, you know. Be happy and honored with the position you have, and do it the best you can. The ability to get along with people and interact well is much more important, from what I've seen, than running your crew like a boot camp.
In the off-season, I'm a Resident Assistant at my university. I oversee a floor of 55 freshmen. I've seen RAs come in with the same style of leadership, and it doesn't work at all. Most who tried to impose themselves like that didn't even make it through the year. Those that did had a terrible time, and their floor ("crew") hated them, too. In the end, it was a dysfunctional, angry, and bitter experience for everyone involved. I'm not saying you should ignore things, not at all, but temper that with reason, compassion, and the knowledge that people do make mistakes.
Just my two cents. If it seems like I'm tearing into you, I'm sorry, because that's really not my intention. I wish you all the best this season. Good luck!

djmcheme,
I hope you read Hoosier's post. It makes a lot of sense. I know it seems like we're screaming at you, but we're not, we're just trying to give you some helpful advice. I see from your signature that this will be your 5th summer with the company. I would suggest you not make a big deal of this with your crew. This can sometimes lead to a "my way or the highway attitude." I hate to say it, but as Hoosier stated, new employees do read these threads. You're setting a negative image for yourself. You're going to have a target on your back, and if I were on you're crew, I'd be doing anything to get switched to another ride/attraction. One thing for you to remember is that you are going to be a spending a lot of time with your crew. Whether you like it or not, they will become your family. You will have to deal with employees you don't like or feel aren't pulling their share of the work. Other crew member will watch to see how respond to this, and if they don't agree with it, they will stop respecting you. Throughout the summer, the park offers seminars for employees in supervisor positions. I suggest you attend these meetings. You will find them very helpful. I may not have management experience at Cedar Point, but I have managed people in other capacities. I know what works and doesn't work, and the path your headed down with your "strictness" is the wrong path. I trust you to find what works best for the crew. The most important thing for you to remember is to provide the guest with complete satisfaction, both in ride quality, and friendliness of the crew. Again, I wish you good luck. You have taken on quite a challenge. Have a great summer, and I'll be watching. (not too closely, I don't ride the smaller rides)

I'd have to say that I agree with Craig 100%! Even with all the safety procedaures you must follow while operation rides, the job at CP is still meant to be fun!
As a Team Leader it is your job to set the example for the entire crew. It's okay to be strict, but do it in the right way. Coming into the season with an attitude will get you nowhere fast, especially not a promotion.
And yes, management does read these boards from time to time. Actually, I am one of your supervisors this season so I will see you soon...
Is this a joke or something?
This doesn't make sense. The positions djmcheme gave on his signature don't make sense. (besides the fact that I know who the ATL and TL of Giant Wheel triangle were the past 2 years... who would write that they're TL of Troika?)
If it's a joke... it's not funny...
whatever.

You guys are taking what I said the wrong way. Last year I had a very tough time with some of my crew. I am older than your average ride attendant. I am 34 and I love to work at CP during the summer. I do not make it a point to become friends with my team. Period. I am there to run a tight ship and provide a pleasent atmosphere for our guests. All I ask is that there will be no goofing off and no hijinks. We have the lives of our guests in our hands. Good luck to everyone with their upcoming exciting summer and I look forward to working with you all.

Maybe you had a tough time because you were strict and they didn't like you because of it. I work at Sea World Texas and when people are as strict as you, we rebel. You will spend your whole summer with your friends, and obviously you have not learned that you NEED to become friends with your crew. However, only good TL's (something your not) know when to be a boss, and when to be a friend. What you are saying is that you are not going to let your crew have any fun. Guests like it, when they see the employees having fun. Let them goof off a little if they are not breaking any rules. We mess around with the guests and try to make it personal here so that they have a good time and feel like they are getting individualized attention.
Hope you change or have fun making enemies!
Cheers

Is it just me, or does this sentence stick out like a sore thumb? Any employee who has worked rides for 4 seasons at Cedar Point knows that employees are Ride Hosts, not attendants. I'm beginning to think this person is a phony!

And there is the answer.
Edit: And now I look stupid. He posted a pretty nasty statement which proved he wasn't being serious.
