Gee, I go away for a couple of weeks, and all hell breaks loose... :)
Anyway, I have a ten-year-old document around here someplace that was compiled by the State of Ohio in which the manufacturer's requirement for the Enterprise is given as an *age* requirement. After all, there really is nothing special about being a particular size to ride Witches Wheel, so long as you are large enough to not fit easily between the bars on the gate. Even at that, there is no reason a rider would have to be any "magic" height to ride...but 60" matches with the growth chart for something like a 50-percentile 15-year-old. I imagine Cedar Point lowered the requirement to 54" because of the number of adults who were being turned away.
As for fencing, the current fence standard was adopted many years ago, and the State of Ohio allowed parks until 2005 to comply. Notice how many rides got new fences last season. I'm not sure about platform gates, though...I don't know if the State is requiring those now or if CP is just complying with best practices. I know that ASTM does NOT require them. ASTM F 2291-05:14 sets out the standards for fencing and gates, but in all cases it is a "when used" standard. In other words, ASTM tells you what your fences and gates are supposed to look like, but doesn't tell you when you must use them.
Incidentally, I understand that on the Enterprise there are a couple of special valves and hoses that require special certification from Huss on a regular basis, and I speculate that may have something to do with the demise of the Geauga Lake ride.

I'm sorry to hear that, MonsterMan. That means you worked long hours for little pay.Thank you! What you did, and others do today make CP what it is!
I hope you got your end of the season (conract) BONUS!

Though I do speak my mind now, and I don't know everything, I do try to help out in clarifying. Thank you.
Actually in 2003 , Long Hours, little pay a new born child, and guests who were pissed off at me for the height requirment change. Very few people actually recognized it's not my decision to make such a change.
I always got the bonus, even in 2004 when I transferred to castaway for the "benefits" if you want to call it that. Ended up with the worlds worst healthcare insurance. I just VERY recently got a new job.
Funny how the park I love and is family friendly , was the career I wanted but ironically not family oriented pay and benefits. Yes, Yes, I know the age of the seasonal base, though I think it's getting more of a 50/50 split in the family diversity department for seasonal and part time employees.
Again, I say thank you, MonsterMan for what you contributed to the park. And I understand your frustrations with the pay/benefits issues. That is becomming more common everywhere.
