Winter Chill Out 2018

There is no doubt that the park has been going in a great direction these past few years. Everytime I hear Jason McClure talk about the park, it's easy to see how dedicated he is to improving the feel of the park and how well he works with everyone in other departments.

People generally like good food on their destination resort vacations. Hopefully food service receives real love as well and not just branding changes.

In my presentation, Tony and Jason all but admitted the food has sucked and they are trying to make it better. I am hopeful they follow through and do a good job

First step is to admit there’s a problem. We know they have the resources to change, now let’s hope there is positive response to their efforts. Perception can take a long time to change.
If they have the wherewithal, they can do some great things at the park at all price points to turn around the lackluster image of food services.

New for 2024- Wicked Twister Plus

I'm really excited to hear that the theming in Mavericks tunnel are going to work again.
Its the small little things that make the experience more fun!

Im hopeful for future TLC for older attractions!

It definitely sounded like Jason McClure made a hard push to bring the Maverick stuff back. Now, he also made it clear that it wouldn't be an exact return to what it was like in 2007. But I'm just glad they're doing something.

And I assume The Frontier Fling will remain?

During my interview for Fling, they said they actually got a lot of sales last year, so I’m assuming it’s here for awhile.

Is Vertical Impact a day time show or a Luminosity replacement?

That would make sense as Maverick is Jason's favorite coaster in the park.

So....can we expect to see the fog? (see tagline).

Promoter of fog.

Most likely, no.

The way he talked about it to the 10:00 group could be interpreted one of two ways:

  • "We're going to restore the tunnel effects to their originals and add even more later."
  • "We're going to restore some of the tunnel effects, but we'll fully restore it later."

This might have been my favorite WCO. The absence of SV trains was a slight disappointment, but I went in knowing that it was likely that they wouldn't be here - remember that the last two "first sitter" trains were B&Ms, and RMC may work on a different schedule. Either way, the Amazement Shop and the ability to get up close and personal with Steel Vengeance really took this event to the next level.

One minor incident - in my group, several people walked under SV's track, and in between the rails, including myself. Made for some amazing, once in a lifetime photo opportunities. The tour guides were closer to the entrance point of the infield and didn't yell at anybody. They seemed to patiently wait for everybody to come back from the photo op.

What I was told by somebody else is that earlier groups were yelled at for it, but that may have been because construction workers were working near the track relatively near that point (by our tour, there was no work being done near the infield, as opposed to earlier when I saw a crane working on the MCBR in the distance as I came into the park, and by the time the 10:00 group arrived there the only workers seemed to be welding on the lift hill).

I sincerely apologize to CP if this wasn't allowed, but at the time I did it, everything seemed to indicate it was fine and neither of our two tour guides yelled at anybody or mentioned it later.

I know some people are butt hurt that Frontier Inn will be replaced by Chik-fil-A, but in my opinion, I love Chik-Fill-A more anyway. Even when I'm near my school in North Canton, I love stopping in there. Their chicken sandwiches are to die for. I'm also excited that there will be more opportunities for me to spot Charlie Brown on the main midway!

^I wonder if Frontier Inn's former offerings will be served anywhere else, I loved the Asian chicken salad they had.

Another interesting note - the tour guides had maps that included Steel Vengeance, which I got a peek at. The guide was pretty open about the map, as it didn't really show anything top-secret, but I don't think that map has been released yet on the website.

I am kicking myself for not stopping at the Amazement Shop

I'm not a big fan of Chick-fil-A, their chicken is too sweet. And it is not honey like some people think, it's just corn syrup. I liked the tenders at Frontier Inn and the fact that they were open on Sundays was a plus. But, overall I'm looking forward to the new food and probably the best news is the Sandbar!

I know that the food place at Shores served the same tenders as Frontier Inn, I'm assuming they still will. Don't know if the salads we're offered at Shores
