That would be a pretty poor rumor, since all of them operate under completely different legal jurisdictions.
...unless it is an edict from Mondial, of course. It is also possible that Cedar Fair may require this, but then it would not be a strictly legal requirement.

That is true, Jeff. But, unless I'm mistaken, all of the parks have to abide to the minimum standards set by the manufacturer. So, if the Mondial said they have to do it, then they would all have to do it.

I love the idea of making the controls into a prize claw game!!! You would most likely need to have a upgraded Fa$tPurge admission though to play it.
Seriously though, from the looks of it - only one or two pair of seats could be evacuated per trip up and down the tower if it was ever used. A better question would be how long would a stuck condition exist before they even decided to use it? It's still going to take a long time to get a potentially fully loaded gondola emptied - which could be hours if they try other methods first, and your seat is the last they get to. Of course, most riders will have evacuated their bladders and bowels already when they see this contraption being wheeled out. Better put a canopy on it for that very reason!
Well, Cedar Point's WindSeeker is getting an evacuation rig just like Knotts Berry Farm
Weather Freak
Ride Warrior
Now that it's been said without attribution by four different people...
I came right out and asked the question at lunch today in an open forum; in fact I freely admitted that we have been ridiculing the evac basket here on PointBuzz. GM John confirmed it; they all get this contraption.
In fairness, the ride is out of the reach of conventional rescue equipment, and the passenger gondola is totally inaccessible from the ride tower. But I still think the odds of actually needing this basket are extremely small.

If people would stop being smartasses for just a minute and understand the context of what I said in response to someone else, the original context was about some "legal" reason. All of the rides, do in fact operate under different legal jurisdictions, so while there may be a reason they all use the contraption, it has nothing to do with the law.

I was trying to say a legal reason prompted Mondail to make a modification to an existing ride. The logical progression is if Mondial is putting R&D to that awful evac system they are going to implement it at all of the rides.
You made your legal point however you didn't need to add the part where you called me a liar ;)
Also Jeff I support the Intamin magnetic fin idea.

But Jeff, the law does say that the parks have to abide by the minimum standards set by the manufacturers. So, if the manufacturer says they have to use it. Then, by law, they all have to use it.
I realize that wasn't how the original post was stated. But, it would still be the case if it was implemented under the direction of Mondial.

So you know that's true in every state and in Canada?
Why are we still having this argument? The initial speculation was that this was a result of some CalOSHA mandate. Certainly there is something more sporting to do than find how many ways I'm wrong.

When I get into the park i'll take some video of the evac for everyone.
P.S. I wouldn't do that.
Friendly reminder - if you're an employee at the park, posting on Internet forums is done so at your own risk. Be conscious of what you post.

And a point for Tony. 8-)
Actually that's good advice not just for anyone who happens to work for the park, but anybody who wants to remain "friends" with the park in more than just the Facebook sense. I'll confess to posting a few video clips and photographs that Tony and his co-workers would probably prefer never saw the light of day. But at least when I shot 'em it was always from locations and at times accessible to all paying customers. I figure anything shot under those conditions is pretty much fair game. At least for those of us who *are* paying customers. Employees might still want to think twice.

I think that they should inflate giant air bags all around the WindSeeker tower. If the ride gets stuck, the lap bars should automatically release. Then, the ride crew can scream at the riders to jump.

According to CP_Rundown on Facebook yesterday, Windseeker is scheduled to be open come Opening Day. :)
wow, that evac device.......*_*
It does look like fun, though, but I am not scared of heights. I still think it would take a long time to unload everyone.

I apologize for not being more familiar with this "evacuation" thing, but do those cages actually stay there on the WindSeeker platform (all season)? Wouldn't that obstruct the aesthetics of the ride-- and more importantly, the efficiency of people getting on and off?
