You can get just about any type of work. You can request a packet with an application by mail. If you want to be a ride host, you’ll want to work for Park Operations. You might enclose a note stating your preference. Of course, there’s no guarantee of what kind of assignment you’ll actually get, but I have known people who have requested and received specific assignments as hosts on specific rides. Keep in mind that there’s some long days with few breaks involved!

You can work just about anything, but certain positions of course have special skills, like EMT and so forth. But to work a ride is nothing, you just request Park Operations / Ride Host on your application (you can choose up to 3 preferences), and you're pretty much in. After you send your application in, it's a good idea to call about 10 days or 2 weeks later and ask to talk to park operations to see what's going on with your application, that way they really know you're serious and you want to work in this one thing. A little initiative can work wonders!

Also, don't be dissapointed if you get one of the 2 big water rides. When I found out I was going to work on Snake River, I wasnt too pleased, cause I wanted a big coaster. BUT There are many advantages to water rides. For instance you get another hour's worth of sleep every morning, and you get to close right on time. But working on coasters definately has its advantages, like meeting enthusiasts. But you get to come in earlier and stay later. I loved working on Snake River, and I hope to work it again in '01. And if not Snake, Maggie or Millennium.

Yuppers Corey since I was supposed to work SRF too but got transfered to Raptor (thanks to BW)
I would have been happy on any ride really----
just tons more happy cause I was on Raptor!!
My WORST evening was being forced to run the Midway Carousel and Cedar Downs
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
that was a thrill a minute...NOT

But yes I have to agree it is far from glamourous
but there is fun times too.....
(more AFTER work though)
it is definitely harder than it looks and of course I am sure that depends on which ride you get.

Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight??
They expect the employees to always being productive. Your always going to be busy doing something. As said before long hours few breaks. Some people can't handle it and are gone within their first month of employment. It's actually not that bad once you get the hang of it. If anyone is thinking about working at Cedar Point avoid foods if possible. Rides, Games, Sweepers are better positions.
:) Thanks SlammerJammerMan :)
I would never want food.
I work in food now. :(
It sucks. :(

Slammer-

Thanks for the advice about Foods...but I'm sorry to say that some of us actually like working in Foods and wouldn't want to work anywhere else. It takes a special kind of dedication and in the 6 years I have been there, I have worked with many people who would prefer Foods over another department. I am sure the extra pay doesn't hurt either, but just to clarify, Foods isn't a horrible job if you don't mind actually working. I don't know of too many people who survive at the Point if they don't really want to work, whether it is Foods or any other department.

Well.. Zone 34 you beat me to it.. Having worked in Rides and Sweeps I can agree with SlammerJammer that they are great jobs.. but also having worked in Accommodations, Foods, Traffic, Restrooms, Group U, etc.. I can tell you that Foods was an awesome job. All the departments I worked in had their merits... Unless you have actually worked in that department you shouldn't suggest to someone that they avoid it.. and just because you may not have liked a job doesn't mean that someone else won't love it ( even working in Food Service outside of CP is not the same as working in Foods at the park)..I left the rides to work in restrooms and it was one of the best moves I made at CP. It would not be politically correct for me to say what my favorite job was at the park.. but I will say that my 4 years in Foods were fantastic. Don't knock it till you've worked there. Cedar Point Food Services... "Simply the Best" ( Zone 5/6 will take you on any day Heather:) )

Thanks for the challenge Jenn...Zone 34 will show the back who is boss any day of the week!

(A little healthy competition between Food zones makes the job a little more interesting as well!)

You guys are right, all the jobs have their good points, it just depends on what you like to do. I love hiking and walking, and being a sweep was the most fantastic time of my life. You get to walk all over, interact with the guests, and there is something new to see every day! But I know lots of people that weren't sweeps would say they thought it was a horrible job; you just have to do it before you can claim anything about it!

I have to agree with Heather on the first fact. Foods is not a bad place to work. Honestly, if you go into it with an open mind, anything is possibly, that goes for any job. Foods can be quite fun. You get to meet so many people from all over the world (you can do this in just about any job) and you definately form a bond with your crew. This will be my fourth summer and it has become such an intregal part of my life I can not give it up. Working at Cedar Point, in any capacity is something to be proud of and to cherish for the rest of your life.

Also, ;) yes, healthy competition between the zones in foods helps a lot. Heather, hey, I thought you enjoyed those Zone 3456 meetings!! And Jenn...5/6 will always give them a run for their money!

OF course the meetings were priceless..but that doesn't mean that we have to get along all the time! :)

And you may give us a run for our money (otherwise what fun is it), but Zone 34 will always end up on top!

Also take into consideration that if you are unable to commute then you are forced to live in third world squalor. That is the worst thing about working at the point in my usually crappy opinion. The job itself isn't bad at all; the living conditions are deplorable.
What do you expect for $17 a week? Of course the dorms aren't great. They do serve a purpose though, and most people who live there deal with it. It's not like you spend any time (except when you are asleep) in your room anyways. Most people come to Cedar Point because of the fun they have outside of work, and you miss a lot of that if you commute. I commuted for 4 seasons and lived at the Point for 2, and I would have to say that I really did prefer to live there even though I was about 20 minutes or so away from the park.

I have lived in Commons, Gold and Bayside, and I would have to say that it isn't the room you live in, but more the roommates that determine your happiness with your surroundings. I suppose I am one of the few who actually liked living in Gold, but of course I had the roommates that I preferred to live with there, and that made all the difference. Being about 30 seconds from the time clock (or from your bed at the end of a shift) was a big perk too!

Zone -- you're absolutely right! I lived in Commons for all of a week, and sharing a bathroom, phone, and everything else with 11 others really wasn't my thing; I won't live anyplace BUT Gold. Sure, it isn't the Ritz (even a Ritz cracker), but it's cheap, and I loved being able to sleep until 10 minutes before my shift and STILL be early. *Grin*

I guess I was lucky cause I was in commons and from day 1 of check in for me my roommate was and stayed MIA the ENTIRE 6 week (ends) I worked there till park closing Oct 15th. So I didnt have the roommate conflict AT ALL...
and considering all the parties I had in that small room, one inparticular ;) thank goodness she was MIA!! No I didnt think it was THAT bad once I brought some of my own cleaning stuff-stick ups and some disinfectant. And MY price was even better--FREE! (I live 2.75 hours away so commuting was obviousely out of the question!)
