WiFi

Alright, so I'm currently trying to download a game for my day off using the Steam client, but I can't connect using the wifi here. Does anyone know how I could contact the IT department and file a ticket with them?

Even if you could get anyone in IT (just dial the main number and ask to be transferred to IT) I doubt it would do any good.
Most likely they would just tell you, "You aren't supposed to be using the WiFi for that!" Or something similar. Your best bet actually to get any kind of connection is after 4am or after 1pm on a Saturday.

Having worked for IT in past years, you can call but in all honesty we're very limited as what we can do to resolve the issue. The wifi contrary to popular belief HAS been improved this year but you still have sooooo many people drinking from the same lake. Also if my memory serves me correctly, certain protocols/ports are blocked or severely managed/slowed down by QOS(quality of service) so as to at least let everyone be able to browse the internet (but not necessarily stream or play games). Now if the wifi is COMPLETELY down what I would recommend you do is nag the heck out of your security gate person and they can call the IT department and eventually they'll look into it...but keep in mind the IT department not only handles Cedar Point the park, as well as the housing, but also Cedar Fair (as in ALL the other parks). Hope this clears up some things and I do apologize for some vagueness...but some things are not allowed to be shared for security reasons (even if I no longer work for cedar point).

Some other suggestions that I've seen others do is 1. purchase a hot spot or use your cell phone as a hot spot....be careful with this solution as you may incur MASSIVE data charges on your cell bill. 2. go to the laundrymat on 250 (the main drag in sandusky) as last I knew they have excellent free wifi. 3. I believe Mc d's has free wifi as well.

I know those ideas aren't fixing the actual problem but they are a few of the work arounds I've seen other employees (and me) use.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, that doesn't really solve the problem in any way since most save games are saved to the cloud, which I can't connect to if I can't log on to steam. That's sort of unfortunate, really, but I guess if they can't do much, they can't do much. I understand :)

Yup they did block everything..QOS also limited and throttled connections to some things (this forum ironically seemed to be one of them haha)

Go to Mcdonalds if you don't have a car, if not laundrymat on 250. If you really wanna be fancy, go outside any of the free wifi hotels, great coverage if truly needed. I recommend Knights in on Rt 6 :P

Clean Scene on 250 has a firewall blocking a lot of sites and ports. Can't even read TMZ on my iPhone while waiting for my undies to dry.
